I have been in your situation before. Small orphaned kittens are especially susecptible to virus complexes that can cause the damage you describe above. These viruses often damage the eye so badly that it will have to be removed (surgically, called an ocular enucleation). I know you cannot afford to do this, but damaged eyes can rupture if the pressure builds up to greatly and cause great problems. You really need to get her to a vet. Call around, make sure vets know the cat is a rescue, and talk to humane societies and see if you can't get some help.
You also should have your cat tested for Feline Leukemia (very contagious to other cats) and FIV (like HIV, but only infectious to other cats through penetrating bite wounds) These are viruses that attack a cat's immune system. All cats should be tested, but especially if she had a virus severe enough to damage her eye, it can be an indicator that she has a supressed immune system due to another virus.

Go to your local Wal-Mart and look in the medicine aisle for a sty medicine. We had a cat whose kittens all got crusty, slimy eyes when they were a few weeks old. We washed the eyes out three times a day and applied the ointment. If her eye went untreated, she may be blind in that eye. It doesn't mean she won't be able to function. Chances are, she's already used to it, and it isn't a big deal. However, if there is still an infection in the eye it could spread. Try the sty treatment, but if she shows any signs of illness call the vets and ask if they have any form of payment plans. It's worth looking into for the well being of your baby kitten. Good luck!

The drug store sells Polysporin eye drops. if you apply them to the eye three or four times a day it will help. If you want to help the kitten dont cheap out on this, there are usually several kinds and you want the anitibacterial ones. This may not save the eye at this point, however it will help the little bugger fight the infection. A cat can survive a normal life with one eye especially if it is an indoor cat, or has had it since life
best of luck

The kitten needs help...she's already going to loose that eye...if you can't afford the vet you can sign the kitten over to the vets office so she can get the help she needs. Please don't be selfish and keep the kitten as it is suffering. The same thing happened to a kitten that my friend rescued...she had to put ointment in the eye but it was still hopeless and had to have the eye removed. Some vets give payment options that can help you pay for treatment...and theres also care credit which is a credit card to help with vet treatments. You can apply online at www.carecredit.com but please get the kitten vet care ASAP

If you can not afford proper vet care when you have a ill animal then you should not own a pet. Either go to the vets or turn the kitten over to a no kill shelter where it can get proper medical treatment before it loses vision in that eye!

If you cannot afford to take the kitten to a vet than I would suggest that you take her to an animal shelter. You can check to find out if shelter is a no kill facility which I recommend if at all possible. Bless you for saving this kittens life but it is not fair to the kitten to be in pain or to go blind because you cannot afford medical care. Animals are not cheap to have they require not only our love but proper food and medical care.

If you can't afford to take it to the vets, then you can't afford to own a pet. Take it to a shelter, so the poor thing can get help before it's too late. (with treatment, they could probably restore some visability to that eye) by you not taking the cat to the vets or a shelter, you are making that cat go blind. And you are actually abusing it, by trying to help. PLEASE BRING IT TO A SHELTER~! So it can get fixed up, and then someone can adopt it! (Please don't go to wal-mart and try to buy something, or try to self medicate the cat) YOU COULD DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD! That's like giving someone an insulin needle cause you think they are diabetic, when they are not. Treating something when you do not know the diagnosis will just make things worse.

Get to vet post haste. Cats can have conjunctivitis or other serious eye infections like herpes. Could find no at-home treatments on the internet. Might try warm compresses but wear gloves.

i'm sure if you tell your vet she is a stray kitten he won't take alot of money from you. she probably has an eye infection if so she can lose her eye!!
she probably needs some eye ointment but i can't be sure cause i can't see her.
she needs to see a vet not just for the eye but also for a general check up which is very important.

If you can't afford to take her to the vet then you have absolutely no business having her. If she has an infected eye then she needs to see a vet immediatly. Take her to your local SPCA, they'll treat her eye and then put her up for adoption. You have no other choice, you can't treat it yourself. It's good that you took her home with you though. DO NOT TRY TO TREAT HER YOURSELF, YOU ARE NOT A VET!!!
