A silver photo frame with a vouchure to have it engraved with babys name, birth weight etc.
Something for her! - ie some nice post baby knickers, a gift certificate for a day at a spa etc
Swimming lessons for baby?
There are lots of little gifts like that you can get them but the one I appreciated most of all was the present from my stepmum which was nice after pregnancy underwear which reminded me I was STILL me.

If you know the sex/name of the baby to be born you could personalise some things.

1. A necklace for mum with the babies birthstone - Opal for October. Or bracelet.

2. A parenting book for babies first year. This is helpful for both parents! Even those who already have kids!

3. Massage oils and creams for mums tummy and baby massage oils , both can be bought from Boots in the uk. These are safe to use when pregnant, and on newborn skin. A great way of bonding with the new baby. For mum and dad.

4. A baby sign language book, this is more usuful for baby when older but mum can read up whilst pregnant and practice! Great fun!

5. A lullyaby cd. This can be played during pregnancy to the unborn baby and then during labour, then at home in the nursary to relax the baby.

6. A baby sleeping bag - these are great and stop active babies kicking the covers off. Get a newborn one which ranges from 7.5lbs upwards to 11lbs so you've covered every angle!

7. A horoscope book for the baby - ie. for october Scorpio or Libra depending on the date.

8. A baby brag book - a small photo album, for parents to carry round and show off their new arrival!

9. A collage of photos of the mum and dad when they where babies. Contact their parents/etc for photos private! Or get them to show u them and take a few home! You could photocopy or scan and then make a nice page or a whole book! Depending on time!

Got loads of more ideas but gotta go cook tea! Good look!

I would DEFINITELY recommend a book called "the girlfriends guide to pregnancy" by Vicki Iovine. It is the best book to read when pregnant and it is fll of laughs and the answers that only a true girlfriend would tell you about being pregnant.

Other things: she will get a lot of gifts for the baby - get a few for her...scented lotions, bath oils, comfy slippers, etc.

Another side note....if you want to be a bit different, you can include a gift for the father: there is a book called "the Expectant Father or Daddy. The book has what looks like a shirt and tie on the cover.

My daughter always buys a nice basket, and buys all the little things that cost new mums a fortune. You may not want to buy wipes but think of this. A lovely basket containing, Cotton buds, baby lotion, baby wipes, cotton wool, a baby face cloth, (in the right colour of course) If mum doesnt know the sex of the baby, buy a lemon one. Maybe a cute little knitted baby jacket. Baby moisturiser. The list is endless. Add a bow and your done. Maybe you could add a couple of small things for mum too. Good luck anyway.

Photo albums(momgrammed if the name is already picked out), You can get really nice things at a store called Things Remembered(usually found at a mall). Cute picture frames, scrapbook stuff, accessories for the baby's room, children's books, baskets(i used them to hold diapers, wipes, etc....), one of those baby carriers that hang on your chest or back, Johnny Jumps Up, a diaper pail, gift cards.

If you have a Babies R Us in your neighbothood go browse at all the stuff to get some other ideas. Hope this helps. Have fun

Lots of things so she can pamper herself,
Bubble baths, relaxation cds, some nice shampoo and conditioners, body oils, massager for her partner to use on her, some make up maybe? skin care items.

everyone will be buying things for the baby and paying lots of attention to the new arrival, mum almost gets forgotton, and make sure if dads in the picture to get him a box too, almost always do mum and baby recieve gifts only to leave poor old dad feeling left out!

whats the quilt like ? i made my son a patchwork one and each square had an activity, zip, pops, ties ect.
how about a baby monitor or a book of questions that every new mum asks (with answers of course)
or parhaps just your time as you seem already to have been generous, be there for her when she needs a hand.

A mobile to hang over the cot...home made gifts are so much more special and personal...even nicer when packaged in a special way, maybe a colourful box or whicker basket with appropriately coloured tissue paper with the gifts nestling in

One of the neatest gifts I got while in the hospital was what I called a "mommy and me" basket.

It had baby booties, and socks for me, baby lotion, and mommy lotion, a baby book and a parenting book.... you get the idea.

I think a picture frame, a parenting or babybook, a gift certificate, or a CD of lullybuys would be a nice addition.

I remember a book i read about "baby's 1st year written from the point of view of the dad. it was really funny (on purpose)! but would also help her see what was coming. It was only a couple of £ from Smiths' _ sorry can't remember name at moment.

also what about baby recipee book?

Also later on add a crisp new newspaper on the day the baby is born.
