I'm trying to make a decision between being a Electronics Technician (ET) or Aviation Machinist Mate(AD).
I'll love to do both so i'll like your opinions.
Which one would be better as a career in the civilian world?

I retired as a Torpedoman's Mate. I have worked with Electronic Technicians and they are good. They are not limited in their field unlike Aviation Machinist Mates. Consider what you would like to do after you tour of duty. No matter on the decision you make be sure you sign up for the Journeyman's Program while you are in, so when you get out you'll make twice or three times more an hour than the person who did not get the certifications.

IMHO - the ET position. Of course I am not unbiased as I was an ET2. Even during the height of the recession in 1985, I had offers lined up when I was discharged from active duty. The same hold true for today.

Aviation is very competitive and you are locked into - well - frankly aviation. With the ET training behind you, you can go into almost any tech field.

Well an ET is tricky because you can too easily get pigeonholed into military applications. I'd go for AD insted.

I was an MAA...so I'm way off the map here.

I qualified for Spooks and EOD as well, but couldn't be guarunteed placement afterwards.

My ex was an FC or FCT not sure what they call them now. Fire Control Technician. He worked on firing systems but after 12 years in the Navy he couldn't find an applicable job in the civilian world. He ended up re-enlisting at a higher pay grade with the Virginian Army National Guard and now runs their recruiting center.

I am not in the Navy, but I can tell you of a very very respected Navy rating. That is a Navy Corpsman. Specifically a FMF qualified Navy Corpsmen. They are basically medics for Marine infantry units. It takes a lot of cajones to not be a Marine but still to follow them into Hell.

i was in the navy for six years and i was a (BM) Boatswain's Mate. All i can say is that it wasn't fun. I would probably take (ET) though because they work in a tempreture controled space.

Both are good rates and would help you land a good job.
