use a light color or a cool color it makes a smaller space took bigger, warm and dark colors make a small space look even smaller. if you want lines put in vertical lines it will make it look taller, horizontal lines make it look longer, and diagonal lines would make it look more active or interesting.

It all depends on the environment of the house. If your house has a warm color keep the hallway in that feel of warmness, just for example. Long hallways are good for fake/real plants and flowers and pictures. A good color for a hallway would be a bright yellow almost white but not quite

Dont go too light, or you will see the finger prints of all the little kids that walk up and down the hallway. Put vinyl beadboard on the bottom half of the wall so you have easy clean up. If you do white beadboard, you can paint the upper section any color and it wont look like a cave.

I think a long hallway would look great with a light color combination using rag rolling or a sponging technique. Not only can you do it in a light color, but fingerprints and marks won't show up as easily.
