I thought about having a martini party, just a few friends over, and I want some different martinis to offer aside from the norm. Know any tasty ones?

For the record, a martini is a cocktail of gin, vermouth, and garnish. That's it. A drink that does not contain gin and vermouth is not a martini. Period. Even the popular "vodka martini" is properly termed a "kangaroo" or "vodkatini".

People seem to to have this wierd notion that any chilled and strained drink can be considered a martini if it's served in a martini glass. I don't understand this concept. If I pour my beer into a martini glass, is it a "Miller Martini"? A "Beertini"? Admittedly, proper glasses are important. Chooses the right glass for the right drink enhances the drink's visual appeal and helps maintain proper temperature and proportions. The best glass in the world, however, won't magically transmute its contents into something different. If i mix my martini is a Collin's glass, it doesn't become a "martini Collin's". It's just an improperly served martini. Similarly, if I put vodka, Tia Maria, and creme-de-cocoa in a martini glass, I'm drinking a chilled vodka-mocha. It's not a bad drink, but it's not any kind of martini.

I'm sorry about the rant. It's just a pet peeve of mine. Enjoy your party. BTW, that cucumber drink sounds great. I've seen something something similar that included an elderberry cordial. It was called a "naruto martini" or something like that.

I am with The Swank Martini Company. We have over 400 recipes online. The Cosmo, the lemon drop, the dirty martini and the choco martini are the most viewed by FAR.

Recently I was a a Hilton Hotel restaurant/bar and the General Manager was just back from a beverage show. He was gracious enough to recreate many of the inventions for us (on the house!) Though we tried many, the most interesting and refreshing was a cucumber martini. It sounded really weird but wow was awesome, it has a very fresh flavor.

crush cucumber in mortar and pestal (or whatever you have) about 1 teaspoon per drink
a half shot of bar lime
absolute vodka (or whatever type you like)
pour in shaker over ice, shake and strain into chilled martini glass. garnish with cucumber slice...............
If you like light and fresh tastes this is for you..........if your looking for sweeter tastes then you may not enjoy this.

The Meyer Lemon Drop is my favorite. Go to Williams and Sonoma and buy the mix and froster (18 dollars together). Add the micer 1 to 1 with vodka (absolut citron is the best, i find) add a little squeeze and zest of a fresh lemon and shake. Its absolutely phenominal, and tastes divine.

My favourite is a shot of vodka, shot of creme de cacao, and a shot a tia maria. (shake it with ice) It is a variation of the chocolate martini.
