Invite me to a church that preaches the gospel, all of it, the good as well as the bad, that teaches what Christ taught, and practices it too, letting ANY sinner into the door with love and acceptance. Find me a preacher that admits he is faulty, and a congregation that accepts, and does not judge, and I will show you a church I will attend.

You have to be friends with the person first and it can't be contrived from your religion. People are more likely to go to church if a friend invites them as a friend. I don't go anywhere with people I don't know and feel comfortable around. If you get a friend to go don't tell anybody what you think their beliefs are, it is only their business to do that. Just say this is my friend, just checking it out. Don't let people question them if you ever want them to go back. Again they need to be friends with the people or it isn't sharing and feels more like an interrogation.

Consider the person's past experiences. Personally I'm afriad to go to many types of churches bc I had bad experiences. I found it ironic the only thing I ever wanted to pray for in these churches was please don't let these people see me crawling out of this church. Other poeple feel judged or just stared at too much to be comfortable in a church. Maybe the place just doesn't suit their personality. Are they an introvert or an extrovert? Is the church service solem and quiet or charismatic? Do they have qualities similar to other people that worship here? Will they ever fit in? People want to think their religion is perfect for everybody but that just isn't the case. If all you really want is the person to go to any church find a good fit for them, don't insist on one type exclusively or you will turn them away from religion altogether.

Lastly consider the possibilty that the right church does not exist for them in your area or maybe the right place for them to worship is not christian but some other religion. Some people are geniunely happy with no religion at all and if there is a god and that is possible than it must be part of the plan so let it be.
There's nothing wrong with wanting to help people on the path but if they have chosen to take a different direction than you may not be the one to be helping them.

I would be more interested in attending a service if it was a casual, unassuming environment where I could explore spiritual concerns freely without pressures from other people. If my openess and casual interests were being interpreted as something more I would probably stop attending and go someplace more comfortable.

I'm 'unsaved' (ie: atheist) and have been to church a handfull of times for the usual reasons - weddings, funerals, christenings, celebratory masses.
My honest opinion - and this is in no why meant to offend - was that none of them seemed like a celebration of faith or the person. It was as if we were naughty kids who had to be reprimanded the whole time and reminded of the consequences if we'd didn't behave. It was very 'them and us' and I didn't find it emotionally satisfying at all.
What would it take to get me in to church? Apart from faith - I think a little more happiness and celebration of life!

Make the "offering" plate and other methods of collecting money less of an issue than preaching the Word of God, then I'd return to the churches. Oh, and preaching ALL of the Bible, not just the popular verses that get preached over and over and over again, not always with the most effective interpretations. Then I'd return. And I am a very strong believer in God. I'm just not always a believer in churches as operated by lazy-brained congregations and preachers. God Bless you.

obviously if people arent interested in coming for the basic reason, then you must follow along like other babtist, methodist, and other similar churches have done establish christian singles groups, mothers morning out, mens clubs, men in community service, tennis team, golf team, etc everything but why people should be there.although I must admit I agree to the singles groups, and the community action groups.

Will for all this in fighting to stop. The Pentecostals say they are the only way to G-d because they know how to pray to him though the use of speaking in tongues; to them all other churches are out of sink with the times.

The only way I would go to church is if someone paid me to do so. And, only for a specific purpose related to being paid.

Why would anyone waste their time listening to some blowhard pontificate about what he thinks the bible really means?

People have to want to go to church. Different denominations make you feel like you have to go, but since I turned Lutheran and I love my church, I like to go on Sundays and to classes during the week. I think if people are truly involved in their Christianity, then they will want to go.

Attack other countries and force your "freedom" on them. Then flood those countries with missionary's to tell them that there is something better than the freedom that was just forced upon them. They'll be running for churches and you will have succeeded in pleasing your God.

People go to church for several reasons. Their religion requires it. They want to socialize. They want to meet people to sell insurance or investments. They want to get out of the house and show off their expensive new car and fancy clothes.
