Hydrogen peroxide will act like a hair bleach. Since you have dark brown hair, it will turn your color a reddish brown hue. Almost brassy and never natural looking at all. If you want to know what this looks like, the best example is when you see asian girls who have that reddish brown hair color. If you want to change/lighten your hair color, have a professional do it.

I did that to my hair when I was like 13---i have like chocolate brown hair. The strips I put the peroxide on turned like a deep honey color.(left it for about 20-25min while i sat in the sun) It was pretty cool. I dont recommend puting it all over your head though--test a piece on the back of your neck first. That way if you dont like it--it will be hidden in the back. Good Luck!

It turns a nasty orange. you do not want to do it. I wanted a change. so i went and cut all my hair off and dyed it what my friend called a red/blonde. it was yuck orange. she is a "so called hairstylist, that worked at a hair salon"
It took all summer to grow it out. then i went back to dk dk brown. My hair has not grown back as fast either. she dyed it so many times and there was so much chemical my hair was like a broom.
it also depends on what kind of hair you have.

depends how much your using, but generally a reddish color to dark tan color. but like i said. if you know what you are doing, then it can look nice. if you haven't a clue. don't do it. will turn out to a disaster. in the end you'll fry your hair and end up wiht a bottle of dye anyways. pay the extra 5 bucks for a box of dye

The best possible outcome for very dark hair is with a product called Blondissima if you want it to be as close to blond as possible. I used to do it in high school and it would come out kind of a dirty blond color.
