you are not alone and crazy,for the 1st time looked at my feeder and the bird you described was there,very red,not orange, I believe the bill was bright orange,I am in wv, thought I was seeing things.cant find in my bird book.

what part of the country are you in? Not sure if there are any north american birds with an all red body and a black head. Orange body perhaps?

Could it be a sick cardinal? I've seen bald cardinals before and they look like they have black heads.

Elegant Trogan, maybe, but they aren't all red, they have dark upperparts.
