This friend of mine and I are intimate friends...which is great, we always have someone to cuddle with when we need it...
But we will just be talking and he will say I Love you, then try to cover it up.....I am wondering why he is doing that...can anyone help me??

Because he thinks you 2 are in the friends zone, and he loves you so much it cannot help but to spill out of him, and out of respect for your friendship he's doing everything he can to keep it held back. Speaking from a guy's perspective, this is some kinda fella.
This is like a "Harry met Sally" deal...go ahead and wake up and start enjoying your happy ending.

He loves you and he is afraid that you don't love him back.
The male ego is a delicate thing.
If you love him, say it back and then take it to the next level.
If you don't love him. Tell him and make a clean break. It will be for the best, and will eventually bring him some peace. He is probably an emotional mess.

Maybe he loves you as a friend & feels it strongly in the heat of the moment. Men make no sense so this is just my guess.

When he says that he's filling in immediate need, but then later he realizes that it may mean he is crossing a bridge that he is not prepared to cross or that it may mean something completely different to you. And he is not prepared to go there.
