Although everyone knows Jesus Christ lived and died, people are literally afraid to believe in the concept of a savior because then they would have to also believe in the concepts of God and sin, heaven and hell. Frankly, most people are too proud, lazy or scared because if they have to believe in God, then they have to admit they are not in control and they will have to reform the way they live. Too many of us love our sin so much that we don't want to give it up or even admit it.

I think a lot of it has to do with how the first four book of the new testament contradict each other so profoundly. Also because there are so many different religions that call themselves christian but worship in totally different ways, each thinking they have it right. A person can become completely confused and just say "forget it". A person searching for truth will also be led away from jesus as being the christ. The more you seek the truth the more contradictions you find in the king james bible. You will also find that the bible we read today is not a complete work of the disciples, most were left out, and the ones we have were written hundreds of years after the fact...... so if you remember playing "telephone" then you you will see where people wonder how much of what we get is the truth and go looking for it themselves.

I don't know about people in general, but here is my view.

I think there may have been a Jesus character as his presence seems to be documented in other places than the bible. However, there is no proof at all that he was the son of god. I am aware that the bible has been translated several times and all the bits that the early church did not want the masses to read about were, conveniently, left out.

Therefore I am left feeling that the information I have on his existence is very one sided and, never having experienced any sort of "religious" event, I am rather unaccepting of the concept.

Which concept are you refering to? There are many people that resonate with many different concepts of Christ. Probably the reason why many people don't resonate with the concept that you are refering to, is that a concept is not the real thing. You can not reach the truth through a concept. The truth transcends all of our human concepts. There are many concepts of Christ which have been created a vehicles to bring people at different levels of psychological/spiritual development closer to the truth, or to teach discernment. There are many false concepts of Christ, and some that offer a window, or lens, that can bring a person close to the truth. But the doorway to Christ is within. To step though that doorway is to become one with Christ, and to leave all the concepts behind.

It may depend on how it has been presented to them- if the presenter was kind or not, or judgemental or demanding, or doctrinaire, etc.

There are various interpratations of the concept to consider in the presentation.
And consider history in the background: interpretation and presenation of the concept has been at times misused in history against people, cultures, or kinds of progess.

If you insist on using the term "Jesus Christ," also consider that actually "Jesus" was not his original name, far from Hebrew and Yeshua. "Christ" is more a Greek word concept, not exactly Hebrew. There is a Hellenized flavor to the terms that may not appeal very well to non-Hellenistic cultures.

I say this all the time... People need to respect other people's beliefs. If you believe in God, Jesus Christ, and the Divine Spirit then I respect that. If you don't believe in God, Jesus Chris, and the Deivine Spirit then I respect that as well.

Believes and non-believers need to learn to respect each other's beliefs. Enough of this "you're wrong and I'm right".

This goes for every religion and belief.

Christianity makes a mockery of God. At the same time that Christians claim to worship God as an omnipotent, omnipresent, omnibenevolent being, they make him out to be incompetent bumbler. Or worse. Simple forgiveness is beyond his capacities. God must "sacrifice himself to himself to change a rule he made himself!"

This is not only an absurdity, it is an essential absurdity. It is present in almost almost all forms of Christianity, and one can scarcely remove it and remain a Christian in anything but name. By definition, all Christians worship Christ - in some form - and most worship him as a saviour.

But what, exactly, is he saving us from? Though it varies from church to church, no matter what they call it, it's God himself. A hell created by God, a world fallen as a result of God's negligence, a separation from God imposed... by God.

"It is a counterfeit love that is contingent upon authority, punishment, or reward. True love is respect and admiration, compassion and kindness, freely given by a healthy, unafraid human being."
- Dan Barker, Losing Faith in Faith

Christianity certainly isn't the first religion to promote appeasement of its gods, and if it were merely another supernatural protection racket, it would be bad enough. Unfortunately, it doesn't stop there. Christians elevate appeasement to the realm of "personal relationship", transforming their religion into a true monstrosity.

This is the type of "relationship" that abused wives have with their husbands, that brainwashed hostages have with their captors. It is known in clinical circles as Stockholm Syndrome. Should it come as any surprise that the cries of the church, "The Bride of Christ" sound much like the cries of an abused wife attempting to protect her husband?

"He must beat me."
"I deserve it."
"He has no choice."
"It's for my own good."

These excuses don't work for human abusers, and they work even less well for God. For if God is omnipotent, he must have a choice. And if we are flawed, we are only flawed because that is the way he made us. (No excuses that we ruined his perfect creation. A truly perfect creation does not self-destruct.)

If the Christian God does exist - and I see no reason to believe that he does - he's not worthy of the name.

And that is the ultimate absurdity of Christianity.

How would one know if there actually was a Jesus Christ if they never saw him? Think about it, why believe in something you don't know really existed?

Because for people to believe in something, they have to actually see it. If you can't physically see Jesus, well then people have a hard time believing in him. I say, READ!! If all Christians say life is better with God in it, then why wouldn't you at least try it?
