What happens to the body after a person passes often depends on religion and tradition, a body can be buried or cremated, the ashes kept or scattered. More often than not there is a wake and a funeral for the being, where family members and friends pay their respects.
To the soul, well, I suppose that depends on your personal beliefs. One may believe the soul goes to heaven, or another world, some people even think that if the person had unfinished business they stay behind as ghosts. Although there are many theories as to what happens after death, none have been 100% proved and we may never know the answer until we know death itself.

Since this is under the "Health" category, I assume you mean the physiologic changes after death (as opposed to a spiritual question).
Signs that death has occurred recently: Absence of heartbeat and respirations, Pupils fixed, Color turns to a waxen pallor as blood settles, Body temperature drops, Muscles and sphincters relax--causing a release of stool and urine, jaw falls open, and body fluids may continue to trickle internally.
As time goes by there are other physiological changes: Body temperature decreases with resultant loss of skin elasticity, Skin assumes a bluish-purple discoloration that is the byproduct of red blood cell destruction (This occurs in the areas on the lowest parts of the body), Stiffening of the body due to contraction of the smooth and skeletal muscles (rigor mortis), After a period of hours, rigor mortis passes and body becomes malleable again.

im jainism, it is beleived that the soul, goes out after death & finds a place as per your 'karma', not just of your single previous birth but of several births you took,
this cycle of birth & death goes on and on till your spirit is completely purified and this purification is possible by your good karmas...

good question.......but for this someone needs to come back after death........and i havent seen anyone coming after death...so its an unsolved mystry and should be a mystry for a while
