Laws With Bringing A Dog Into the US?

My family ,ight be getting a dog from out of the country, so my question is...What are the laws for bringing a dog into the United States.

They have to have all current shots/vaccinations, registration, and I think they need to have them in quarentine. You need to check with your city aswell because some animals are not allowed in some cities or have different laws. Check on your citys webpage, there should be some information about that or call the city animal pound

I am in the military and have had to take dogs back to the states myself. It has to have been at least thirty days since their rabies shots (unless they are puppies and under the age required for rabies vaccine) There is no quarantine, the only animal I have heard that has to go through this is birds. They have to be micro-chipped. You have to have an international health certificate for them. A vet can provide this. If you are having the dog shipped, there are a couple of companies that do this. Pet-Air, Delta, and such. They will have their own policies when it comes to other things. Good luck and congratulations.

Oh yeah, if you are having the dog shipped, there are black-out dates during the summer due to the heat. It depends on the area, but usually June-Sept, you can't ship dogs. You can however, purchase them a ticket and let them fly with you.
