Well, I live near Sacramento and it takes about 8-9 hours to get from LA to Sacramento, depending on traffic. From Sacramento to Portland took me about 8 more hours, depending on weather and traffic. All told, straight up I-5, it should take you about 17 hours or so, if you drive straight through.

That assumes that you don't hit LA, Stockton, Sacramento OR Portland during commute times. Also, I-5 near the CA/OR border can get hairy when the weather is bad. There's a long bridge that goes directly across the middle of Lake Shasta. The bridge is very narrow and when it's rainy or snowy, it's also slick. That area has a chain mandate from September to April - you MUST carry chains at all times.

I drove from Sacramento to Vancouver, BC in December and nearly got stuck twice on my way back through Yreka because it started to snow heavily.

About 26 hrs of steady driving, considering construction, heavy summer vacationers traffic, and staying within the speed limit.
I live in Portland Oregon. I hope that is the Portland you meant.
Welcome aboard, when you get here,
Hope

Portland, Oregon? Oh about 2 days. If your not java'd up, definately 2 days.. If your a fast driver, and you, dont like to make alot of stops, except for gas.. 1 1/2 days.. We drove to Roseburg Oregon, when I was a kid, from Riverside area.. And, I do remember my dad, having us all stay in a motel atleast one night. So, take a guess from there. Good-Luck, and be safe! God-Speed, to you!! Pray for Travelin' Mercies...
