Since everyone says dewormers sold at Petsmart can kill my kittens, can I buy something online?

Nearest vet is 2 hours away and my kittens get car sick... and they always overcharge me....

How about DRONTAL (for cats)... "The only broad-spectrum dewormer with the convenience of one dose administration for cats. Drontal contains praziquantel/pyrantel pamoate/febentel. Indicated for removal of tapeworms, hookworms, roundworms, and whipworms." 50 tabs $157

It says NO PRESCRIPTION REQUIRED, even though DRONTAL for dogs is require.

So is this medicine effective? If they only have tapeworms, would this medicine hurt them if they don't have the other worms listed?

And one of my kittens continues to have loose stools (not completely diarrhea) and a pot belly (signs of worms) but no worms were ever seen in his stool like the other on so would it hurt him if I gave him the medicine too?

Also should I get dewormers for my dogs too because they shared food and water with them?

You've got several different questions here. In no particular order:

The common OTC dewormers with piperazine won't cause harm (so long as you don't overdose the cat), but they're not very effective either.

Assuming the product is safe to begin with, deworming an animal that doesn't have worms won't hurt anything.

Drontal for cats (pyrantel/praziquantel) is non-prescription, but only available OTC in places outside the US. Other brand OTC products with both ingredients are readily available in the US.

Drontal Plus for dogs also contains febantel, which makes it prescription only; febantel is not shown to be safe in cats, although I've been told it can be used.

A pet can have worms even if you don't see them. When in doubt, treat.

Dogs are unliklely to have picked up worms from the cat; but they're dogs and probably go outside. Periodic deworming of dogs is recommended just on general principles.

There are things besides worms which can cause loose stools. If deworming doesn't help, at least take in a fresh fecal sample for testing.

1st depends on how old the kittens are...
Drontal is just now available without a prescriptions for cats. You are correct about regular stores meds... alot are more dangerous than helpful. Worming you cats and dogs regularly will help keep them healthy. Generally tapeworms are noticeable... you can visually see them in fresh stool, or sometimes attach and dry to look like "rice" near there rears. If the kittens are very young check the label to see if they are old enough to have it.
My Drontal bottle says not for kittens under one month or weighing less than 1.5 pounds. And yes it is good for all worms except heart worms for the cats.
Also a feed store is a good place for pet meds.

i would not suggest buying dewormer online. make the 2 hour trip to the vet's office and be sure that they need themedication, also find out about your dogs at the same time. i would not start your pets on any medications without visiting a doctor, or at least calling them.

you can buy dewormer at wal mart or kmart if you have one around you. It is only around $5 a bottle you just put a little in their food . The one with diarrhea this might sound crazy but it could be lactose intolerant my new kitten is i have to buy it special food that has no lactose in it.

most meds can harm a young animal.they are usually recommended for cats 3 months or older.your vet may be able to help you however.he/ she may have something that can be used on younger cats.
