There are few candidates these day that people really want to vote for. They all have thier downfalls. Republican/Democrat doesn't seem to matter much anymore as both parties are wacked out. In a sea of unworthy candidates I think there is one man that stands out. General Colin Powell. He is a brilliant man and would make a strong American president. This is not a question of race, but more a question of capability. He seems an obvious choice for me and many others. So why won't he run? and if he did - would you vote for him?

I would vote for him in a heartbeat. I think he's not running because Bush and crew told him not to. God knows what they could have threatened him with, but something certainly happened, because he stepped down as secretary of state. Oh, yeah, why was a General secretary of state when a man with NO military experience whatsoever is secretary of defense? Can someone please explain that to me? :)

Colin Powell is a brilliant man. He only said at the U.N. what
everyone else said (even Clinton) that there were WMD in Iraq.
Well, recently, there was a very large cache of older weapons
of mass destruction found, so this was no lie. They did have
them...Saddam used them on his own population....and Syria
probably has them hidden for them right now. Don't be so
easily swayed. Powell won't run for President because he doesn't
wish to (as stated in the Legion Magazine). He sees how the
public treats a President and perhaps doesn't think it's worth all
the crap people throw at you. Soon, no decent person will want
to be President. A lot of liberals will call you names, make liars
out of you, and seem so unpatriotic these days. Shameful. One
can disagree without being disagreeable but we'd rather call
names and march in the streets and have people like Cindy
Sheehan call the plays.

Colin Powell is a good intelligent man and would likely make a good United Statesian President. However, it will be a long time before all the American nations are under one flag and we will be able to elect an American president.

Colin Powell is a very capable and attractive person. Are you sure he will not run for President if not in the next election than the one after. He will have to get the stink of Geo. Bush off him.

I'd vote for Gen. Powell in a heartbeat. However, the man's way too smart to run for President of the US. Have you seen how badly Presidents age during their terms of office?

I would definitely vote for Colin Powell. I think he would make great decisions (If he was president during 9/11...i'd have to say he'd make the same move Bush did...go into Afghanistan/Iraq).

HELLA yes i'd vote for Powell... POWELL FOR PRESIDENT 2008!

But considering he's not running, i'll be voting for Rudolph Guliani...

A few years ago, when there was talk of him running, I was all for it. (I would prefer that he run as an Independent rather than a Republican, however.) Unfortunately, when he voiced his support for affirmative action, that just broke my heart. I was so darned
disappointed. As of now, I think John McCain looks the best.
Let me add, also, that I don't think Gen. Powell's being black would hold him back, especially being a military man and relatively conservative.

Hell no, I wouldn't vote for him. He lied to the UN and when he discovered that BUSH and his administration were rushing into war under false pretenses, he tucked his tail between his legs and ran into retirement. I would've had more respect for him had he contacted an investigative reporter at the Washington Post or New York Times. ..before we went to war! So...I'm in favor of letting him continue to work on old Volvo's in his spare time. In fact, any US soldier returning from Iraq who has an existing car-problem should look Powell up for a free fix!

I think anyone who has been closely associated with Bush would find it difficult to pull of the election ... as far as I can see, most presidential hopefuls are doing their goddamn best not to be seen or associated with the president ... as for Mr Powell, he would stand a good chance in 2012, but not 2008 ... good man though he is ...

Retired General Powell was a very wise in his chosen profession but that says nothing about his politics which is a whole other ballgame!

Then again considering what little else is out their he does make for a strong hopeful!
