XP Pro is designed for small and large businesses, as said on microsoft.com.

also does that mean you can buy one pack of Windows XP Pro and use it on multiple PCs in your office, with just one CD-Key?

If this is true, how many PCs doesnt that pack actually support?

Or I have to buy XP Pro "business edition" (which I haven't heard of, maybe it exists!)

Thank you for your answers

No, it is one CD key per PC. You can buy a license agreement from Microsoft that allows multiple installs if you want to go that route.

What your probaly referring to is something called " Windows XP Corporate Edition". This edition is sold exclusively through the Microsoft Licensing system. This means that say, the same cd can be installed on 1,000 machines with the same cd-key. You ask .. why? How could this be possible? Here's why: The "Corporate Edition" of Windows XP is meant for companies with at least 1,000 computers or users of the program itself. The key UNLOCKS the software, thereby no activation is required. This software cannot be bought in stores, but only through Microsoft itself. This is the same software, that companies such as the geek squad at BestBuy use when they have to redo your operating system and charge you say $15. Its the same product when you go somewhere else and get ripped off for maybe $40 or $50.

Again, the "Business Edition" is called "Windows XP Corporate Edition". I have a legal copy through work, we are allowed to install them on our laptops, its the exact same operating system as Windows XP, just that it has an single key for the entire company, and unlocks the product, with no activation. Other then that its the same.

But, if you wish to purchase an license for say 10 computers or so. Microsoft will issue you seperate cd-keys. These keys will be issued depending on the amount of computers you specify. This is not sold in stores, and if it is, then i wouldn't buy it.

The best thing about the corporate key editions is that the KEYS never go bad. So i could TECHNICALLY use my key on a million computers LOL.
Hope this helps!

In order to install XP from one CD onto multiple machines you will need to obtain said CD from Microsoft and make sure it has a global license. Then you can install on however many machines you like. Otherwise you will have to have a licensed copy of the OS for each machine. Either way it is going to be pricey. You may want to consider a Linux solution which will save you quite a few bucks.

To use one copy of XP Pro on several machines you contact MS and purchase a key that allows you to place the copy up to 100 PC's. This can be costly, but it is the only legal way to use one copy for many PC's/
