Download spybot search and destroy even if you have another spyware scanner, and open the start-up manger found in the advanced options tools section. Disable all auto updaters and preloaders for software programs that you seldom use. Also disable utilities for graphics and audio card unless you use them regularly. You will find that after removing spyware, this is the most significant thing you can do without adding more ram to your system

Use disk defragment and disk cleaner utilitly regularly. Add additional RAM. For regular computer use 512MB should do quite nice. For gaming the go for 1GB or more. Also stop programs from running from startup. Almost everything you put on sets itself to run from startup. A program should only run when you are activly using it. Otherwise they run in the background and use valuable RAM and other space on your computer causing it to run slower.
If your computer is still under warranty then call the tech support and they can tell you how to do it and what Windows programs must run from startup.
If not under warranty the do a Google or Yahoo search for "How can I make my computer run faster?" You will find tons of info. This is what I did and it made all the difference in the world.

Take all those "handy dandy" little programs that are come up when you start your system and reside in your tray. You know the kind I'm talking about...the memory hogs that you hardly use. They drag your systems capacity to process. You can get one program that refreshes your memory. It sweeps out unused memory items or restores memory. It can reside in your tray or you can just bring it up as needed. Try "FreeRam XP Pro". You can get it at: www.yourwaresolution.com.
This program provides you with a visual from the tray as to the status of your memory in Megabytes. Mine is set to automatically refresh if memory falls below 25mb. But you can refresh it manually.
Give it a try, they only ask for a donation if you find it useful. By the way, I am in no way affilliated with Yourwaresolution. I am just a satistfied user of their product. Good luck!

Place a book under the back of it to tip it at an angle, then the electricity runs downhill, speeding up how it works. Make the lead from the plug shorter so the electricity has less distance to travel.

the speed of your computer depends on two things. Your cpu speed and the amount of memory you have.
If you are running less than 512 megabytes of memory, your computer constantly writes to the drive to leave room in the memory for system operations. the cpu(usualy pentium) controls how fast information is processed, but it functions like a funnel, directing only so much information at one time. upgrading both processor and memory will give you the biggest boost of speed

OK now i am assuming that you have a spy-ware and anti-virus program.
First download a copy of PC Booster from:
http://www.gold-software.com/download413.html
Then run a De-frag on your hard drive, this may take a few hours depending on the size of your hard drive so set it going and go off and do something else till its finished.
Install and run PC Booster. Its so easy to use a child could do it.
Then your done, your PC should be alot quicker
