And what makes you think that others need to "get it", namely ones that make their own choices to follow their own religions, not yours???

The bible doesn't answer any questions - it only creates more questions. The Christians who use the bible as their life manual are the ones who can't even hook up a home stereo. "I don't know, Martha...the bible doesn't say where the red wire goes. I guess Jesus doesn't want us to have it." Unlike a stereo, life doesn't come with a book of bad instructions, so Christians make the bible into theirs.

That behavior shows a lack of common sense and the ability to think outside of a book.

for the record i am a christian and occasionally quote the bible. i do so only to back up the answer that i have given in my own words because every answer i give related to God or Christianity is bible based. i am not an expert therefore i want people to know that i am not just making the stuff up! i believe some people feel that the only way to answer a question of this sort is to do so with scripture. maybe you could ask them to give you their own opinion on ... insert question .... that way you might not get so much "bible thumping" Good luck, god bless.

to phoenix_slay.. I'm confused, are you a christian, a smart a**? or just trying to make us look bad? that really didn't help anyone!

Well, part of the reasons that we repeat the Bible so much when answering a quesiton is because you obviously haven't gotten it yet.

As for not having "my very own mind" and being "brainwashed" ... there is no crime in using references to answer questions. In fact, if we didn't use references you'd be mad at us for not using references. And how many poeple have answered questions here by quoting others?

Quoting something or someone to make a point is not an indication of being brainwashed, but is an indication of being well-read and well-versed on the topic.

Blind accusations, however, is an idication of being brainwashed.

Because their own thoughts are not allowed into their brains. They must follow dogma and so instead of an intelligent argument, you get blasted with quotes, out of context at that, so they can say so there!!You must be part sheep to follow any of their preachers. And the born agains are the worst! Jehovah Witnesses follow right behind them To have the audacity to preach that only a certain number of THEIR people will get into heaven. It is a shame that independent thoughts and questions are discouraged by religions.-- Jesus weeps--
Just for Pheonix: You my dear are a perfect example of why the question was asked. The Bible was written by MEN to explain the world around them. God is alot smarter then that

Well, if it's a question related to their faith, then it would make some sense to use the Bible. Not everyone though has read much theology, and sometimes the Bible is the only source of answers that they have. Some think about what the Bible says and try to form their own views.

I guess it just depends on what question is being asked. Sometimes it's appropriate, sometimes it's not.

No we are not brainwashed.

I am a Christian and I very seldom quote the bible when answering in here. Do I know my bible--yes. I believe that quoting scriptures sets up the stereotypes you just mentioned. Every thing I say is based on the bible, though. and yes, by not quoting the bible I am following one of its precepts--cause not your brother to take up an offence.

It's because they get over excited at the opportunity to quote the bible so they try and get the whole thing in, also they hope people will read it and convert to their religion.

*~I was SO tempted to find somewere to cut and paste the whole bible from as an answer to your question but I think it would be too big, and that's a well evil thing to do!~*

EDIT: Ah, I see some berk has done exactly that!

Many questions ask "Why do you ______" and for Christians, many times the answers come fromor are backed up by the Bible, so to site why you think or believe one way, and back it up with where you came to know that isnt uncommon. You get the Bible here because its the category for it. Go to Parenting, and people will site the way they were raised, or personal experience, or go to Science, and you'll find countless text sited as back up.

You've pretty much answered your own question. There was a question similar to this one the other day. If the quote is relevant to the subject at hand--a verse isn't that bad, but it's extremely annoying when it has absolutely nothing to do with what was asked.

I wouldn't call it 'brainwashing'. Some folks enjoy great detail, while others skim it to get to the point. We are all different, it just depends on what one wants. I suppose they do it to answer further questions relating to the topic before the questions arise, so they can get on with other activities.
