For a cockatiel to memerize a word you should claim it persistently and yet all over again. Rember even as it learns a word advantages it. some cockatiels under no circumstances learn a thanks to communicate. Your fortunate adult males are better vocal than females. you've gotten better success training them to whistle

use a clicker. A clicker is a little thing that you press when your pet has done a desired behaviour, such as repeating things you have said. When you press the clicker it makeds a sharp noise that is very distictive. First teach your bird what the clicker means by pressing it and then giving your bird its favourite treat. Everytime your bird does something right, click and treat. The advantage of using a clicker is that it captures the moment that your pet has done something right.
No late or early clicks allowed. it defeats the purpose of the exercise.

Cockateils are not very good talkers. Getting a CD that has sayings on it and pushing repeat on the player for 15 min a day can help. Males can learn to talk, but most females can only whistle

you have to keep talking to him, repeating over and over. Also if you say things with a little bit of emotion (like say it with a smile or with excitement) that might help a little. I'm not sure though, Because my cockatiel had a similar experience, he was not abused or neglected though, the groomers cut off his tail, and messed up his wings. anyway, i tried to teach him to talk repeating it over and over, but he wouldn't say it, then one day, i was laughing, not even trying to teach him, and ten minutes later he just started laughing just like i was!

Patience, patience, patience and repeat, repeat, repeat. The CDs are a good idea. You can also try teaching whistles first. They seem to catch onto those quickly.

Well first if you want it to co-operate you have to be sure that it feels safe with you and trusts you.Next, focus on a word and say it all the time. When he/she says it or something that sounds close to it, rewards him/her.

Not all cockatiels are talkers, but you have a better chance if yours is a male.
