Do you think that the show's creators were justified in trying to save the environment like this? Or do you think they're not? Are you against environmentalism? Or do you not care? Actually, if you don't care, don't answer this. Anyway, we each ought to take a position. What's yours?

I have no agenda if that's what you're asking. I'm trying to be unbiased, and I simply asked what your opinion is about Cpt. Planet and issues related to his show.

The series took a conservationalist stance, which is great. Being a children's cartoon, they had to make the villians truely reprehensible, which is where some people get upset - they think the animators were out to make all corporations and governments look like evil polluters. Like other people's answers, the show's heart was in the right place and it increased evironmental awareness in kids.

They should release those on DVD. That would make environmental studies and ecology classes in high school sooooo much more entertaining.

I think they had a great idea in marketing *sensible* environmentalism to a young audience. Certain environmentalist policies (such as large-scale preservationism) are as unrealistic as they are unworkable, but such things as reducing toxic particulates, using fewer disposable goods, and recycling those things that can easily be recycled (all of which are espoused in the show) are actually good for the economy as well as the environment.

Captain Planet as a show was crap. I remember when it came on when i was a kid... even back then i had an interest in preserving the environment but i thought the show was cheezy.

They had their hearts in the right place, but trying to sneak issues like environmentalism into kids shows never works... it just makes them look lame.

I always thought that show didn't give kids enough information on what they could do to fight the evils of the world. It sort of told people: Pollution is bad! And then didn't say what alternatives there were. It seriously needed more content and less "we're superheroes! We save! Wheee us!".

The show was terribly flawed:

He's a superhero who fights pollution, but his weakness IS pollution!!!!!

Captain Planet: Smogman, I'm coming to beat you!!!
Smogman: *sprays smog everywhere*
Captain Planet: Nooooo!! I'm feeling weak....

I think captain planet had too many distractions for kids to even realize that -they- have the power to fight pollution.
