Well, it's not "just you" because a lot of people think that. To me, it is a Holy book and calling it a fairy tale is borderline offensive.

Now, if you want to ask "why or why not" people might think that way, that becomes a different discussion all together.

Whwn I was a kid we used to go into our garage and i shut the door and in the darkness i would make up horror stories on the fly which the other kids loved. As i was a kid i realised i had some sort of "power" with these stories but had no ambition/knowledge to use such power (apart form entertaining the other kids with).
Rest assured the have been many people live and die before me who also realised the power of scare stories, as adults rather than as as kids and hence some of these people took it that bit further. I dont think its a coincidence that the better educated a population and normally the more wealth there is then the less control can be exerted over them by failr stories.
Any educated person knows that religion is merely a form of social control. Well if had realised this as a kid I would have had all the other kids do my homework for me, do my paper round for me and give me most of their pocket money for the privilege.
In answer ot ur question - i dont even need to read any other religious books to tell u that they are all fairy stories.
Does anyone think that if there were some all knowing good guy that he would want all these muslims to go doing what they are doing to others and that if they did these dispacable acts that they would have all these virgins waiting for them in heaven? What about the christians? bUnch of farkin crazy b*stards wiht goodness knows how many paedophiles amongst the clergy - hope god is proud of them. And as for the jews and israel - even th efarkin muslims dont ask us ot move out so theyh can have our country for them - they try to live in many countries - y can tthe jews do that? CHeeky b**tards!!
i'm not knocking one religion - u are all fools!!!!

I never realized there were so many misconceptions about the Bible anyway, no it's not a fairy tale at all it's an instruction manual of life on earth for those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior. Also since Christ came and died for our sins we are living in the New Testament times, the only part of the New Testament that could be considered a "fairy" tale is Revelations and it's a description of what will happen at the end of time when Christ raptures the church and has the final battle against satan. It has two endings, one is a happy ending for those who are saved by grace through faith in Christ as they will go to heaven and live for eternity with the Savior. The other ending is, unfortunately unhappy for those who are lost as they will go to hell with satan for eternity. Now here's the kicker, am I right? I believe that I am however, I won't know until I die will I? So don't get all worked up and tell me I am against this or that it's just my thoughts and beliefs.

After being FORCED to study christianity at school and never really being given access to any other religions I took it to being a load of old tosh.
I want to know who sat down and transcribed all these 'facts and figures', collated all the information, did the editing, wrote the copy, indexed and chapter marked. All this back in the whatever century!!
And I also want to know why devout Christians take it at face value as fact! I really wish J.R.R Tolkein had been around in the year 0, cos they'd all be spouting off about Bilbo's only son being sacrificed for the rest of Middle Earth so that the Dark Lord Sauron would be defeated...
Personally I find Lord of the Rings far more believable than the drible, oh sorry, bible.

It's not just you...I am a strong non-believer in the Christian religion.

I shouldn't have to say this every time I answer a religion question, but just so I don't get ridiculed here it is again: I have all respect for Christians. If that's what makes them happy then go for it. I'm happy /not/ believing in it, but I would never try to talk somebody out of believing something. I only support my own views. The same goes for them - I don't want to be forced into believing something I've already whole-heartedly chosen /not/ to.

I prefer to live my life for myself, family, and friends. Life's too short for me to try to believe in a faith-based religion. I'm a very logical person for the most part; I stick to the facts. I don't like the thought of trying to believe something with no science or evidence behind it...take the theory of evolution for example, I'd rather just not know than choose one of the many theories out there/ I don't believe anything I guess lol. Not unless it can be supported by some sort of evidence.

That's just what I prefer!! :)

Zechariah 12:3
--------------
On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves.

This is a Bible verse written some 2600 years back. Read this - analyse the world situation today and then decide whether it is a fairy tale or truth.

Definitely. In Erhman's best seller "Misquoting Jesus", he as a Christian lays out the evidence of how a combination of uneducated Scribes, Roman Emperors (Constantine) and other factors contributed to the Bible's dramatic altercation over hundreds of years.

Aside from those facts, it should be clear to any reasonable, relatively intelligent person, that the Bible is full of fabrications in order to influence and even scare the populace into doing what leaders of the times wanted them to do.

We know that walking on water, turning water into wine, parting the Red Sea, and other similar magic feats, are pure rubbish. Perhaps the only thing Jesus Christ may have influenced is the healing of people's illnesses and diseases. This can be done if a person strongly believes it is possible. Scientific studies have shown that the mind can heal oneself through the power of belief (i.e., also prayer). In those ancient times, they most likely had less inhibitions to shed in order to allow the healing mechanism, triggered by their own minds, to take place.

Throughout history, we've witnessed how the Catholic Church has tortured and murdered people who exposed the truth that defied their religious texts. We now know the universe has billions of other galaxies like our own and that the earth is not the center of the unvierse. Cupernicus was murdered because he said the earth revolved around the sun.

I'm not saying a form of Jesus Christ didn't exist, I'm just saying that obviously whoever wrote the texts did so in order to promote their agenda and that it is clearly full of a lot of lies - and is more a con job then any relevant text related to reality.

Which explains why so many con artists get into the T.V. evengalist business, and so many loser men turn to religion to save them from their personal failures. The Bible and its industry is a con artists/criminals' goldmine. People believe whatever they are told and will follow men who cloak themselves in the "Word" without regard for who they really are. Example: Denis Rader - serial murderer, President of the Witchita Lutheran Church.

Men in government today, such as G.W. Bush used religion and the support of the Christian fundamentalists, to get into office. As have many politicians, such as the Roman Emperor Constantine, they have a form of instant mind control where everyone is networked into, in order to get their political objectives met. There is no more powerful a way to tap into a grid of support than to cloak oneself in religious issues people feel strongly about.

To sum it up, religion and the Bible are nothing more than mind control that often acts like a virus spreading out of control, making people ignorant, mentally lazy and hypocritical.

it is not just you. the Bible was changed a lot for the purposes of the paps. so we can say that it is glamourised. there are many gospels that should have been lost forever, but luckily were found. read them and you will be wiser about the Christianity

When a christian reads the bible, they read it believing that there exists an almighty god, who can do absolutely anything no matter how ludicrous it sounds, and no matter what it is.

So to a christian when they read something in the bible, that under normal circumstances is near on impossible, they just put it down to one of god's miracles, because god is all seeing and all doing.

But to anyone who takes a reality check, it doesn't take too long to realise that the bible is a load of nonsense. Similarly god, heaven, hell etc... are also a load of nonsense.

You are born, you live your life, you die, end of story.

People seem to forget that the bible was written by MEN as a teaching tool. There are a lot of good lessons in the bible, but it's really a allegory that I don't believe was meant to be taken literally.
