as a Christian, I find that it is more important to show love to people as opposed to shove Scriptures down their throat. So basically, my question is, what are Christians doing wrong and how can they/we do a better job of spreading God's Word.

Presuming that theirs is the 'one true' religion. I agree with your idea of showing love, but some people do not adhere to such standards. I walked the christian path for many years, and even though I was doing my utmost best to be a true christian, I still had others try and point out the things I was doing wrong. I would faithfully sit in church, study my bible, and try to be a strong and giving person in our community but for some of the 'sunday' christians, no one could do better than them, lol. After what I can verbal abuse over so many years from these 'christians' I finally snapped and told several of them off quite well. Even though I don't follow the christian path now, (I am at peace and have found harmony in my life since I found the Wiccan path), I believe that you are on the right path with showing love instead of shoving scripture at people. And if people want to accept the christian way, then the love will guide them. If they do not, they can still walk away from the experience with a good positive feeling instead of the anger that I sure follows have scripture shoved at you. Keep up your good stand and brightest blessings to you!

I think Christians should realize as a group that some people won't be converted to Christianity. I also don't like it shoved down my throat. I think any relationship I have with God is a personal one...and just because I don't go to church or talk about it doesn't mean I don't have a relationship.

The only thing I really think Christians are doing wrong is trying to push their beliefs onto others, and to rule the US based on their beliefs. There's nothing wrong with their beliefs, and I believe that religion certainly has a place in society. Faith is important to many people, I'm not arguing that, but religion is not for everyone. Certainly not all, but some Christians that I've talked to seem to think that people who don't believe in God are completely immoral, terrible people, and this isn't true. There are other reasons to be a good person.

Most of all, however, I can't stand the way Christians are trying to involve their religion in the law-making process. Our government was formed based on the separation of church and state. We have been sectarian since the beginning of our independence, and yet people now think it's "American" to be Christian and to base our government on that religion's principles. Not only are there many people who have no religion, but there are those of different religions, and ALL of these people need to have their rights and beliefs respected. I think it's horrible that people vote for Bush simply because he's Christian ... this does NOT make him a good leader, and in some ways makes him a bad one (I won't get into the other ways he's a bad leader). I watched a special on television about how people are becoming either more conservative or more liberal, and I think this is due to religion. The religious Christians are trying to turn our society into a reflection of their beliefs, and the liberals are responding in kind. This country WILL fall if its government becomes based on the ideals of one religion, namely Christianity. There are many ways to maintain a moral society, and involving religion and government is not one of them.

Perhaps this doesn't describe you personally, I honestly don't know. But overall, this is the one thing I believe Christians are truly doing wrong. Allow your faith to be something personal. On that level, it is a good thing. On a societal level, it is only causing problems.

The main thing that Christians are doing wrong in my view is to simply not allow human beings to be human, while they act no different in the end.

In other words, they place unrealistic expectations on others (and let's face it, religion is about unrealistic expectations because none of us can ever meet them), but when the shoe is on their foot, more times than not they'll rationalize it rather than look at it honestly.

Personally, I like the principles of Christianity, such as the Golden Rule, but unfortunately the holier-than-thous tend to disregard that, rendering them hypocrites, which turn off many people who would have had the potential of becoming practicing Christians.

Some Christians just shove the Bible down peoles throats and don't back off at any cost.... it's true that witnessing is very important, but if someone doesn't want to listen, then they won't listen

Will for one thing quit telling people they are the only way to get into heaven. Quit trying to destroy other cultures ie the Jewish Culture for one thing, yes the Jewish People have their own faith but they have their own culture. Quit being so high and mighty because you feel that your the only way to G-d. Also quit all this in fighting all ever heard in the 80's when I wanted to be a Christian is you have to join the Pentecostal church because the Pentecostals are the only ones going to heaven because they are the only ones that can communicate with G-d though the speaking of tongues.

Samantha gets my vote for best answer.

And just a note to rich p...why on earth do you think we don't pay taxes? Good Lord, if I don't the IRS will have my hide! There is no exemption for Christians from paying taxes.

Churches, however, because they are like other non-for-profit agencies, are exempt. But if you don't exempt them, then you'd have to tax all the other not-for-profits. You know, like the American Cancer Society, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Planned Parenthood...(that wouldn't be a bad idea..ah, never mind...)

I think Christians are too sure that their religion is the most important thing on the earth, they are too defensive of their god and sometimes it seems like they are single-minded people. Maybe Christians shouldn't be that persistant, should express more tolerance towards other religions and atheism.

Christians follow men, not Jesus. Even though they want to follow him. For the thousanth time, Jesus addresses this issue, take the time to read the red words in your bible and if you don't have any, get one that does, because the red words count the most toward practicing what you preach.

Christians need to 'walk their talk'. Live life the way Jesus would want you to and don't be so judgemental. I think if reg. people would see the peace and love that is in our lives instead of all the holier than thou stuff, more people would find their way to God.
