Nothing. If the dog just recently died, she's probably still grieving and will try to find a dog just like her previous one and will be sorely disappointed. Advise her to wait a couple of months, then start visiting shelters...she'll know which one is for her the minute she sees it, no matter what the breed is.

Tell her to wait a while...it's hard to get over the loss of a pet. When she IS ready, make sure not to get a puppy that is the same breed as the dog...she will compare it too much to the old one-unfair to her and the puppy. Then, make sure she doesn't get just the first one she sees...do research on the breeds, go to shelters, and she'll know when she comes to the right one... But overall, make sure it is a different breed and that she has allowed time to grieve the old dog.

It is kinda odd for someone right away get another puppy but if she wants one i would get a siberian husky. They are very easy to train and they listen very well! Oh, and if her old dog died because he got hit by a car then try not to let the new dog outside without being on a leash or with someone watching him very good!I hope you take my advice very helpful! And tell your friend I'm sorry that her dog died!

City dog? Small town dog? Farm dog? If she has the room get what ever she wants, if not then get a Shih Tzu they don't shed anymore then a human dose if even that much. they make good watch dogs and will be a great companion.
I still vote for her to get what ever she likes baring what we all think because she has to live with the dog, we don't.

That depends on her life style, and how big she wants it. Some good gaurd dogs that are good with kids are german shepherds, golden retrievers, rottweilers, and dobermans. if she wants an easy to train dog, border collies and german shepherds are good. for small dogs, or apartment dogs, basengis dont bark and dachshunds are sweet. But over all maybe a mutt from the shelter wouldnt be so bad

A dog from your local SPCA or animal rescue facility. Dog pay for a dog when so many are looking for a good home for free. A rescued dog will be much more humble.

She should go to the dog pound or animal shelter and view the dogs. Then pick one out that she bonds with.

She should get a soft coated wheaten terrier.
soft coated wheaten terriers! lots of people in my town have them. i have one as well. they arent like other terriers. their more just like furry little people. here are some links for pictures! they start out with a black coat when they are born and then only the beard and ears stay black and gray.
