It's looking for your startup disk. Reboot from the OS install CD/DVD and run a repair disk from Disk Utility from the install CD/DVD, and if needed, change your startup disk to your Hard drive, if it is still operational.

I don't suppose you live near an Apple store but if you do, take it in to the Genius Bar and see what they can do for you. But... and this is a far out guess on my part, you could open it up and check the connection to the hard drive, sometimes a loose hard drive cable can cause this (at least it does for iPods). That's just an educated guess on my part. But yeah, it is having trouble reading the hard drive either the drive itself has malfunctioned or it is an innocuous as a loose cable.

Alright its having a problem finding your files and hard drive. Try booting from a CD. Preferably a utility CD like Norton's Utilities or Tech Tool Pro.

hi Chris, Yeah, he desires to actual purchase a replica of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. besides out of your CD you insert the Mac OS X disc, reboot the mac and carry down the C key besides from the disc truly than the interior problematic force. It more advantageous than probably gained’t artwork from such an old OS Disk, that’s why your pal might want to actual own the OS that he has on his Mac. That’s called application piracy. It’s useful of you to provide to help him, yet frankly, he might want to pull out his old dusty wallet and actual pay a Macintosh tech guy to artwork on his Macintosh, or a minimal of, a guy who knows the Macintosh. That way, he doesn’t have problematical non-Mac concepts to his issues. the guy desires to actual how you should use a Macintosh besides. I’m sorry if this sounds harsh, yet you wouldn’t favor a Mac guy engaged on your domicile windows workstation both. --Rick
