I always see "who wants to chat?" with no specific gender, location, or age. Just completly random. What the hell is the point? Do you really have nothing better to do? Do you have that much free time? Are you that desperate? Not trying to be mean, I just do not understand it.

1) I did word this somewhat meanly. Sorry.
2) Someone used an analogy to playing video games which I think is fair.
3) Discussion boards aren't the same thing. You have some idea of the person however vague.
There's nothing wrong with making new friends but how many people do you seriously believe are honest on the internet (or safe for that matter - hackers, pervs, worse)? Absolutely nothing wrong with chatting but I guess I will never understand why someone would figuratively go out of their way to ask "Do any of you 6 billion people on this earth want to talk to me?". Thanks for the responses.

Some people just like to make friends and share exchanges of information to see how the rest of the world thinks and lives. Seems to me like a pretty good way of learning a lot you might otherwise never be exposed to.

Boy, get faraway from that one. She's merely searching for absolutely everyone that ought to have her. you fairly do not choose her leaching off of you. i'd tell her that you've an pastime in somebody else and that you imagine it really is extra acceptable if she looks for yet another guy to be with because you at the instant are not excellent for her. i'd then delete her as a buddy out of your facebook beforehand she turns right into a stalker. This woman looks to have some severe head themes happening. you do not choose the drama. you may not opt to be advise yet you won't be able to be too astounding. when you're too astounding she is going to imagine that you'll replace your ideas or some thing and also you may not in any respect do away together with her then. xoxoxox

I don't understand it also. I have a friend who is like that. Not only dose she talk to random people but she also create false idenities, by giving people fake names and photos. I really cannot understand and have constantly wondered, What is the point? The only answer I could come up with is she gets some type of fix or sense of power out of this. Some people are lonely and need attention, and people online become the people missing out of their life. If they could be so sociable on the computer they can learn how to be sociable in real life and eliminate the need of e-friends and e-strangers.

That is retarded, then what r u doing? Every1 has free time, I'd hope. What's wrong w meeting new people? Making friends? Who said any1 was desperare, only 2% might be. But 90-100% are on the net. Who said it was that much, ur ignorant and assuming. No1 ever said all day. I'm sure they have a life as I said.

Life ain't all that long. Why waste YOUR time trying to figure out something as innocent as this? It's just a thing some people like to do. They aren't asking you to rob a bank with them. They are just in the mood for a little harmless chat. It's that simple. Have a good day, friend.

I have met most of my close friends and my last 3 boyfriends online.

While it was never in "chat" (I don't think I've ever been to a chat room), but in discussion forums, they all began as strangers who only shared an interest in some subject with me. One of the subjects was "Life," so I don't think that weeded out a whole lot of people.

I think it's better than meeting people in bars or through friends of friends, as you get to hear them speak passionately about something they care about. You see how they interact with those with whom they disagree, how much they care about other people and so on.

I wound up moving a thousand miles to be closer to my friends, after years of seeing them only once a year or so.

Example: Well from my understanding, I chat because I want to get to know more people and see who's out there. I get to know many personalities and races. Until I come to the person that has some compatibility with to whom I am! You see!
