Carefully.
If they're really over protective, this may be a point of contention. If they're fairly balanced and supportive, they might even help you find an affordable place and may lend you some stuff to get started.
Either way, show that you can make sound financial decisions and even keep a small savings "just in case", be responsible for your time, get up without having to rely on mom or dad to make sure you get places on time.
If you're already on your way in these matters, try bringing it up over diner...at a public place. Just in case.

First you need to have thought this thru completely. Then you have to make sure that you are self sufficient and can live on your own and not have to keep coming back to your parents for support financially. Show them that you are a responsible person first while living at home by the way you handle your problems, your money, and help around the house. Do you pay rent to your parents? You should. That will tell them heaps about how responsible you are. Do you help with the chores and take some of the load off your parents? You should... that will tell them even more about your ability to be responsible. Do you respect them and the rules of the house? You should, showing that after all you are an adult and can handle it. After this, I think you can safely talk them them about being on your own.

First of all, make sure you are prepared to handle independant living.Have a well-paying job or at least a roommate to split the cost of living, one who is responsible and dependable. If the roommate moves out will you still be able to afford it on your own? Do you have furniture lined up, at least a place to sleep and an alarm clock? Do you have enough money set aside for toiletries and food not to mention bills? If you have all of this secured then all you need to do is tell your parents. Most parents are afraid that their children won't be there to protect anymore which is why many want to keep them close by. Allow them to help you if needed but show them you can take care of yourself and that moving out was something you needed to help you grow up not get away from them, unless that is the reason of course.Good Luck.

Welll, age, state of mind, a job, maturity, are you financially able? Will you have to move back in about a year or two if times get rough. You've got to be able to support yourself without your parents. You have to have deposits for your apartment and Utilities. They don't turn them on for free. Stay with your parents as long as possible and if and when you have a job save some money and also help your parents out to if they're struggling. If they're rich or well off then stay around only until you're financially able to support yourself. You can test that theory. Stay over at a friends house with no contact with your parents for a month or two then assess if your ready to leave or not.

Depending on your age, you might start off by telling them how much you appreciate all that they have done for you through the years, and how much their love, help and support has meant to you.
Then let them know that you are feeling the need to try your wings, and that you feel that the time has come to try and get on your own. Tell them that just because you want to move out, it doesn't mean that you will stop needing their love, help and advice or that they'll never see you. Let them know you want to be independent and make them proud and put into practice all that they have taught you.
If you phrase it correctly, they should be fine. That doesn't mean they won't miss you...and who knows? Once they're alone again they may
re-discover one another...;-)
They should be very proud of you, sounds like they did a great job of raising you~*
Best Of Luck~*

I take it there is some sense that they don't want you to move out. Find out why.
If it is because they fear you are not responsible enough then start by paying rent and your fair share while at home. If you can make your regular rent payments ontime then you're ready for the responsibility of renting on your own.
If it is because they will miss you then assure them that they can visit you and you will visit them. You still want a key to their home, right? Then give them a key to your place too so they can come visit you.
However, I find your situation rather nice because you can go to college and save money while living at home.
In the end, it is up to you but it helps to get their involvement. Break them into the idea slowly by setting a time table with them. "In six months I would like to have a place of my own. Can you help me get prepared?"

That depends.....how old are you, have you finished high school yet?
If you've finished high school.or are over eighteen then you say "I'm moving out, got my own place, I'll keep in touch, see ya' later".....or something like that.
If you're still going to high school or under 18, stay home, finish school (can't emphasize that enough) and don't be so eager to start out on your own. You have the rest of your life to be on your own....and believe me, there will be times when you wish you were back home with your parents doing all the worrying and bill juggling and all the fun (?) that comes with being independent.

First, don't ask permission or that shows that you're not really ready to be on your own. What you need to do is find a plce, figure out how you're going to pay for it, have at least the 1st months rent and down payment mondy saved up before you even approach your parents. Then sit them down or take them out to dinner and tell tham that you're ready to live on your own and here's why ....

At a party, the greatest day of a parents life is when we get you out of the house PAYING your own bills and keeping you out.
If you're ready to PAY your own way your parents will not be prouder.
