There are medicated shampoos you can buy in the supermarket or drug store, but that by itself is not enough. All of the child's bedding needs to washed in hot water, and the fabric surfaces of the household furniture needs treated as well.

I previously worked in a school nurse's office and there is no quick way to get rid of head lice. If the problem is really serious, EVERYTHING has to be treated: bedding, stuffed animals, clothes, hair decorations, combs and brushes, etc. It's not necessary to cut her hair because lice will infest even short hair, but short hair is a lot easier to treat. Many of the combs that come with lice shampoo are too wide-toothed to pull all the nits (eggs) from the hair, so it's best to pull them off with your fingers. Put them on a towel and then wash the towel in hot water. Section her hair in small sections and examine the hair closely; nits are usually laid close to the scalp, but you can find them anywhere on the hair shaft. Her siblings need to checked and if necessary, treated as well. Children in general should not share combs, hats, scarves, jackets, etc. And if the mother remains uncooperative and the situation is affecting other children, you can either contact the school nurse or Child Protective Services.

Use a lice shampoo on her and then wash all of the bedding she has used in very hot water with bleach to kill all of the lice living in the bedding. Retreat in two weeks washing the hair and bedding. Without washing the bedding, the lice will come back.

You need to wash everything in the house not only the bedding because they live everywhere. The only way to really stop it is to cut the hair, but since her mother will not let you, use Rid. Another way is comb mayo in her hair. WASH EVERYTHING!!!!
