they collect all this donated money, dont pay any taxes and live like royalty, i thought that being servants of god meant living a humble and non-materialistic way of life.shouldn't they be using the donations to help those in real need? Do cardinals and bishops need to live in mansions or should they live a simple life and help starving children more often than they do?

OK

1) A lot and a lot. Much comes in, much goes out. Maybe not as much goes out as comes in, but where is that not the case?

2) Yes they should be using all that money to help people.

3) No they should live in simple quarters. However, that being said, a lot of the mansions and what not were donated to the church, and I have no problem with them utilizing the space. Possibly they are not utilizing it the way they should, but that is their choice, not mine.

One reason they use the wealth and mansions etc. is that people have an outmoded embedded belief well if God has blessed them like that maybe I should be that religion too. That is the reason for the huge soaring churches(any denomination, not just Catholic), gold crucifixes, gaudy ceremonial robes all of it. To impress people about how much "the Lord has given" to the church. Jesus taught people outside in the open, walked most places, and worked as a carpenter most of his life(probable since Joseph was a carpenter). He wore simple clothes and espoused giving away all of his possessions. Heck, he even had to have his disciples borrow a donkey for his entrance into Jerusalem. If you build a bigger church because the one you have is becoming too crowded, that is one things, but even then it should be a simple building made to be solid but as inexpensively as possible. If you build it to show off that is pride, which is a sin.

As a Catholic, I think they take in far more money then they give back. No, they don't need to live in mansions or live any differently than we do. I've got a problem with it and so do all the Catholics who are leaving the Church and finding a place that lives like they do. Meanwhile, at least in the States, they pay their teachers a poverty wage. What's up with that?

That "mansion" was built a long time ago. They now take in a lot of money and a LOT of money goes out to charities.

Oh, and many other faiths are building church monstrosities all over our own nation. Do you come down on them for wasting money and not supporting charities?

One more thing... rukidding, you're entitled to your opinion but no one for a minute believes that you are a Catholic leaving the church for those reasons.

I don't know how much they get, but it is allot. The statues, etc. in the Vatican are gold, the sheets silk, and much more. That means they are getting too much. Any they give back is just to keep the people donating happy.
