As a customer who got blatantly robbed last night, I would have to say that Dean called the fight too early. I was looking forward to this grudge match and although I didn't expect it to go the distance, I expected a war. Imagine my disgust at the end of the night when, after two super-hyped battles, the best fight was a Neer-Berkman undercard. That shows what kind of a night it was. A total failure for the UFC and for MMA in general.
That being said, OBJECTIVELY DEAN DID WHAT HE WAS SUPPOSED TO DO. The replay showed Ken get socked by a right elbow, which made Shamrock loosen his guard. After that, it was four point blank elbows to the face. True, Ken got up and looked like he was fine. This was only because Dean got in the way after the fourth elbow and limited the damage. Ken would not have been able to stop those elbows for at least another 3 blows.
This was a mismatch comparable to the Mayweather - Gatti fight a while back. It should have never taken place. It was great for ratings because both fighters are very charismatic, and the authentic hatred attracted the casual fan. But Ortiz is a powerhouse that is simply on another level. Hatred alone doesn't make a great fight.
I hate to say it, but referee Herb Dean did the right thing. Another 40 bucks blown. Thanks Dana.

Did none of you watch the replays? Ken caught only 2 of those 7 elbows to the face, the last 5 elbows hit him squarely in the shoulder because he was pulling out to the right. He had Tito a bit off balance and unable to connect to the face. From the camera angle, that was quite clear. Dean should have waited for Ken to go limp like Big John does. This is getting too much like proffesional wrestling

Shamrock was not defending himself. If the elbow blows would have came later on in the fight, say in the 3rd round, no one would have questioned Dean's judgement call. People are just upset because the fight didn't last very long.

Yea, Dean is an idiot. It looked like Shamrock was about to get up after he took those 6 elbowings from Tito.

Personally I'm pulling for Tito. He seems to be a better person than Shamrock. He has defeated Shamrock before, but anything can happen in a fight.

yes and no I belive that one of the mistakes that Ken Shamrock made was not fighting how he used to fight he really isnt a stand up fighter so I think not trying to be the agressor as far as takedown fighting is concerned was a bad move. And as far as herb Dean was cincerned I think he might have just been trying to use his best Judgement.Letting someone take you down and working from the guard is becoming an Obsolete fight strategy

I think Herb did the right thing cuz Ken was eventually gonna go limp. You can watch the fight on www.youtube.com and see clearly that when tito started elbowing ken in the face his arms were spread far apart leaving his face wide open. So it was just a matter of time.

It was stopped too soon BUT that's not the first fight Herb Dean has stopped early. Look at Silvia vs. Arlovski 2, Arlovski ate a few punches but he knew where he was at, looked ready to squirm out from being on the bottom of Silvia, and Dean called the match with Arlovski shaking his head, Why'd you do that?
