If America went to war with North Korea would we be able to handle the cost of two wars?

Even if we defeated the axis powers in WWII they still had the capability to attack us with missiles. Think about it, if N. Korea attacked Hawaii we would lose amajor advancement base in case of an already growing conflict. Then in the middel east Iran would more than likely attack us for attacking Korea because that's how the world is Enemies stick with enemies.

Actually America does get unsettled if another country works on developing WPMD but it probaly is just a security thing, but still. America has the feeling that if it isn't like us it's wrong which in fact itself is wrong.

Bush durng 9/11 reacted to fast. We should have focused efforts here first before going on to start a war with another country.

Remember when we attacked the Japanese we didn't have the power to do what we can now. The A-bomb is nothing compared to a nuclear salvo. Think people. What we need to do is set up a treaty in which N. Korea is allowed to work on it's missiles as long as test are done within the country's borders and we are informed of the item count/shipments of material coming in and out of the country. Of course they won't tell us everything, but America lies to as well as keep secrets.

You pose some good arguments for indeed it looks like the North Koreans and the Iranians could actually work together in creating an imbalance of power.

I just got done answering some idiot’s supposition expressing that we should leave our troops in the Middle East and use our air superiority to bomb the Koreans. But if you know your history, no air attack has ever produced more than a 25% success rate in striking their intended strategic targets in either Vietnam or Korea because of the terrain and the extensive network of caves this part of the world has. Even if we were to “Nuke Em” as I’ve heard some say, what’s to prevent them from striking back, we still haven’t perfected these “bunker buster” missiles.

No. Unfortunately, it looks like we’d not be very successful in fighting a second war primarily because of the extensive nature of the North Korean situation. The only thing we can hope for is the impact a trade embargo could have with North Korea if Japan and/or China were to team up. We all know that even with sanctions from the UN, N. Korea will still attempt to build their missiles, but they’d be seriously stretched for resources and therefore their missile program would take longer to develop. That’s what the president is attempting to do by freezing N. Korean assets in other countries.

Indeed the threat of N. Korea attacking Hawaii with nuclear missiles is a very real one, the treat of a missile actually hitting its intended target has been somewhat reduced though, as the US Navy seem to be finally showing some positive results in its interceptor missile program. The cruiser USS Shiloh on June 22 shot down the warhead portion of a two-stage target rocket fired from the Pacific Missile Range Facility on West Kaua'i. It was the seventh actual hit in eight tries for the nation's sea-based anti-ballistic missile defense program. Of course it only takes one of the Korean missiles to reach their intended target to be successful.

No it’s highly unlikely that the US could afford the cost of fighting a war against both the Iranians and the N. Koreans however if we were to strike preemptively upon the testing facility using submarines and cruise missiles we could in theory set them back. Of course this would again bring us into a war that we would have no other choice but to finish as quickly as possible and one which would also rapidly escalate into something that we could easily loose control of. And unfortunately we don’t have the resources to move all the troops we need over there as quickly as we’d probably like, considering the number of troops we’ve amassed in the Middle East. Actually right now the US is asking for Australia to get involved in creating dialogue with the Koreans because they still have trade relations with them. Who knows, maybe something will come of it. We can only hope.

It would actually be three wars if America went to war with North Korea-- Afghanistan, Iraq and NK. But North Korea doesn't have the capability to attack Hawaii. Sure, they have a missile that, if it works, could reach the US, but it doesn't work. Their test failed miserably. Hawaii is a very small island in a very big ocean. They'd miss.

But if we were forced into another war by an attack, world opinion would be with us, and we wouldn't have to do it alone.

Let's hope they don't. To remain a credible force in the world we would have to retaliate. Assuming they used a nuke we would also. This brings other forces into play. China for example might not like the idea of the USA nuking a border country and dowsing them with radioactivity. Assuming worst case nukes flying everywhere , there would be no winners. Its amazing that todays generation does not know that. I guess because they didn't grow up during the cold war. How soon people forget.

Well the chances of America attacking another country are greater than another country attacking America. All you are worried about is the cost, think of the destruction and death it will cause to the lives of millions of people. War mongers have a special place reserved for them in hell and both Saddam and Bush are going there.

we were able to handle that kind of threat 60 years ago.....and the axis powers were much more formidable. a direct attack against america would outrage the people. well, at least for a little while. then the democrats would go traitor again, just like they've done in the war on terror. how soon they forget what 9/11 meant.

I N. Korea attacked Hawaii with ballistic missiles we would probably respond with our strategic missiles (meaning 3-4 would wipe NKorea off the map). That is why they won't. The N. Korean aren't stupid, they simply are trying to get some political capital out of these weapon's tests...

The war with North Korea would involve a red button on Bush's desk. It would be over in about 11 nanoseconds.

No American troops are over stretched in the middle east and America will have to fire missiles with missiles

We wouldn't have a choice. We can't just sit here and let missiles be lobbed into the country and not respond.
