that would be kid napping. unless she has sole custody and the father has absolutely no rights. if he has a shared /split custody,then forget about it!!!!!!!we are talking about serious consequences,that the mom doesn't need.maybe even jail ,loss of custody, even resentment from the child to mom. if it's just a trip,then it's been said you have to notify the courts.basically preplan it.(most people do) if it's out of the blue try talking with him, give him information of where you'll be, allow him to speak with the child on a daily bases . anyways,back to the subject,register a notice with the courts,the father is notified legally via mail and can consent or deny. if it's not the answer your looking for then you can appeal it. it's alot of work, but you'll keep your rights.

If the child is a minor, both parents have to apply together for the passport for the child, unless there is a court order allowing one parent to get the passport.
If you want to take your daughter on vacation out of the country, you can file a motion with the court where the original custody agreement was filed, and ask for permission to get a passport. This will take a while, though.

In trhe UK the answer is yes so long as there are no court orders in force.

that's exactly what my mom did. i was six years old and we came to america. now i'm 15 and my biological dad hasn't contacted me since. he's an asshole.
