Most regions of the country have their resident "blue jay," but cristata is the species officially designated by that name. It ranges through Canada and the United States east of the Rocky Mountains and is the only jay species in much of that area. They are alive & well in my backyard. Put out some redskin peanuts if you want to attract them, and you will probably see a few. You will need to get up early to see them, since they feed at dawn.
