With today's gas pricing going up and not going to be going down, I would reccomend a Toyota Camry. They're bullet-proof in a much as they're built so well. These cars scoot pretty well & get good mileage. An SUV I would reccommend is the Toyota RAV4. I own a Subaru Outback with AWD. It has the most uncomfortable seats iI ever sat in. It gets poor mileage and is a dog. It also is great in poor weather.. I like manual transmissions, so, I got a 5-speed.
American cars are just not up there with the same quality.. I am not anti-American, but, $25 K is a good chunk of change. Get consumer reports back issue of the 2006 ratings for new cars. This will help you decide, and, it gives you reliability of past models.

Well since gas is high and only gonna go higher and higher I would steer towards a car for economic reasons.

Then as I looked at cars I would steer towards a used car that is 1 year old or considered a "managers demo" so I don't end up losing the depreciation on the vehicle being new. New cars today can lose up to $5,000 by just driving them off a new car lot.

Now that I am in the 1 year old used catagory it would depend on my age, do I have a family, kids, dog, do I need to haul stuff for work, home, hobbies?

From here it could range from anything from a used Lexus ES300 to a Subaru Legacy Outback to a new Smart Car.

But since I am already in the used department I would try to stay around the $20,000 price range. This would then allow me to instantly pay for my car insurance for one year on my new ride and still leave me at least $2,000 to do as I wish.

Maybe a spoiler for the car, maybe new tires or rims, maybe a new stereo. Maybe just some new clothes for me.

Maybe just put it into the bank in a savings account.

Just cause you have the cash doesn't mean you need to spend all the cash at once. Don't let it burn a hole in your pocket just cause you have it.

If I had like $25,000 dollars, I would buy a used 2003 red Dodge Durango, and a used (don't know what year yet) BMW 325i 2-door coupe and modify them with the remaining $10,000 left over

I would look at a car probably a Toyota. Although I would like a multi purpose vehicle the way gas prices are going and will probably stay high, I need a vehicle that I can afford to run.

I woud get a sedan,
better gas mileage, trunk room, space to take others with me, and the lowest car insurance.

You can get a nicely equipped Nissan versa in that price range.

I would get a simple car that saves gas and use the rest of the money for other things IE gas, insurance, etc.
