yes, there are many of us who realize that the world laughs at us. all countries have something to laugh at. including yours, i'm sure.
Based on your name, you're from India or of Indian descent.
Amazingly with all that laughing, people from India and other countries still come here! I'm not sure what's more blissful: Ignorance and living well in the US or hypocricy from the people like you who come here to make money.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I've read your comments and made sense of what I could. You seem to be taking it very personally but yet you tell everyone else not to take it personal. Not sure - I think you are taking a personal vendetta and anger out and expect everyone to give you attention with inflamatory remarks. Ignorant or not they may be.
Again, I will stick by my statement saying - well, why are you here in the US - to make money ? It is hypocritical to speak when in your country they can't keep you employed and you have to come here. Most cultures believe that you don't bite the hand that feeds you. Apparently you must.
And btw (by the way), this is an etiquette section, not a rant and rave about politics or culture. I think your question would be more appropriate there. Etiquette has to do with manners.
Final words, Keep laughing. It will give you your only good company and you will live a long happy life.

I understand your points and I'm not even going to get into an argument with you about it. I like my country, you do not and no amount of debate is going to change that, but how can you say not to take it personally when you say the whole world thinks we are a joke. That's personal whether you think it is or not. What if I said, don't take it personally, but you are a terrible speller and your English is atrocious. Who cares if you are making an effort, you seem ignorant of the English language in my opinion and I'm laughing at you while I read your question and following comments. Not very pleasant to read about yourself is it? If you didn't want to offend or make anyone angry, why did you ask the question in the first place? Not everyone in this country agrees with the "president" and the things that he is doing around the world. And those of us who do use our common sense and do not blindly accept the spoon fed propaganda good ole' W professes, do realize what a joke he is and what other countries think of his "leadership". We cannot change what other people think about us, we can only change how we handle things in the future and hopefully do our best to elect someone to office that will be of some good to this nation and those around the world.

Obviously the enquirer is from outside US. I am also.Yes, I have seen people outside US and even some within US also laughing at US. Laughing is not always a sign of maturity but oft en of imbecility also. No doubt US has not always been correct in her dealing with the rest of the world and have often fumbled e.g. Iraq. The Monroits were also laughing at US for participating in both the world wars. Just imagine what would have been the world scenario in such a case. Would the world have been as free as it is today if Hitler had triumphed and destroyed Russia also. There would have been no Israel and in fact the Israels would have become Parsees of India whose population even without any harassment(much lest holocust) is going on dwindling from year to year and one day The Last Parsee Would be Carried to the Tower of Silence. It is true that thd realisation that it is the only remaining world powder does give airs to America but you can see for yourself that American policies have more harsh critics in America itself. Remeber the retreat from Vietnam. Good sense will prevail by and by.Then they will have the last laugh.

Not to mention the fact that the US is richest and most powerful countries in the world. How about I flip the question, and I don't mean to offend anyone here.
After 9/11, do most people of Middle Eastern descent that live in the US realize that we look down upon them for all the **** they have caused this country? It's self proven, after 9/11, there were many articles written by those descendants who felt that they were being treated unfairly because of what "their people" did.
So ask me again, do I really care?
Not a ******* chance. I'd rather live here than in a sandbox.

I'm in the U.S. People probably laugh as our country as a whole because they want to make their country look better as a whole and put down others because we're so much better than you are in economy, relations with our allies, defending ourselves, helping out other countries including the ones that give us a hard time. Another thing - if the whole world laughs at us, why do so many people in the United States have true friends in other countries. We defend countries who can't defend themselves. Homeland security is one of the top priorities and if other countries think they're so much better than us, how about y'all try to fight the war on terrorism.
Whoever made a comment on the second page about fat people needs to stop making generalizations. I'm not fat, but I know some overweight people who are very intelligent. You can't base someone's intelligence off of their weight.
Oh yeah, if you didn't know this, Americans choose what they eat. That's a part of freedom I suppose. If you're fat, you either have a disorder or you make the wrong choices when choosing where or what to eat.
America is the land of the free and the home of the brave. God bless America. To the girl who answered after me, the truth doesn't hurt because I don't need to know much about anything out of the U.S. and you probably don't know that much about things out of your own country, excluding current events, major events happening in the world.

Having been an American ex-pat for almost 10 years in 4 other countries, I say, 'Yes.'
So sad, but there does seem to be a growing ignorance in the US - as evidenced by a lot of the answers given in this forum.
That being said, having just returned to the US, there's no place I'd rather be. It's a great country with a lot of potential, if only we can finally elect an administration to steer this country in the right direction....

We're too arrogant to care. Our society has us believing we are some kind of "imperial country". This sure isn't what Thomas Jefferson and Associates had in mind when we pried ourselves away from England Iron-fist.
We've allowed our wealthy to dominate our country and it's opinions. The working class in our once great country has no voice and no representation.
If other countries and their correspondents were able to meet some of us on a "one on one", they might find we aren't much different then anyone else.
Regrettably, the only groups with a voice are those groups that are extreme enough to help sell newspapers or advertisements on our television programs.
Our servicemen, by the time they reach foreign soil, are so brainwashed with a "police-state" mentality (my grandson is one of them) that even I find them obnoxious.
Our tourists, or those who can afford to travel abroad are usually the "overprivleged, wealthy, whiny (sp) yuppies" and their demanding and rude offspring.
No wonder other countries hate us, we've become a nation of pen#ses w/ ears. (can say that on here?).
I personally apologize for the poor behavior my country has displayed in the recent past. We've got to improve (to quote John Lennon, "couldn't get no worse").

Oh well, to each his own. I am one that has the less money so I have no ignorance of that or the things behind the borders. Seems you are being a bit judgemental in your accusations of those you are ignorant about. Laugh if you want or feel like it but you may find one day that someone else will get the last laugh.

One cannot make assumptions that ALL US citizens are naive about the worlds view of us. Just as one cannot make the assumption that ALL Middle Easterns are all terrorists. We cannot control the actions of other people, such as president Bush, and there those of us who do want to change how the world sees us fail to do so because the people in positions of authority and decision making think of them selves and what they will benefit. So just becasue all you see is the Americans on tv and Bush, that all of us are like that. Some Americans do want the world to view us with more respect. We are aware of our worldly status.

At least most of us bother to spell words correctly and use proper grammar.
You call us ignorant, yet you're the one who's generalizing an entire country, one I'm sure you've never even been to.
People do anything to come here, smuggle themselves across the border, make boats to come here, etc. People have died simply to enjoy living here. People die to get OUT of your country!
I watched a documentary about trans-gender people who live in India and they showed a bathroom in a typical Indian home. The "toilet" was a bucket sitting on the floor. I'd rather die than live in a place where there isn't even decent, hygienic bathrooms.
Here we have freedom of speech, freedom of religion... You aren't allowed to speak your mind, choose your own religion, marry someone you love...
You have no idea how many Middle Eastern and Asian guys I've talked to on-line since 09-11-01 who are desperate to get out of their countries, move here, work here and marry American women.
Do us a favor - learn to spell, learn how grammar works and maybe we'll listen to your opinions. Until then, we'll ignore you like the rest of the world does to ignorance.
