Since 1900 there has been a shortage of plumbers. The profession has changed, but the need is still there. The competition is increasing because there are plumbers form the eastern European countries. But complex plumbing work will always be profitable

YES. There is a BIG demand for plumbers and a good one can practically name his own price for his services. You'll have more work than you can handle and get rich, too. Too many young guys these days want computer jobs and don't want to get their hands dirty. Plumbing is an open market if you don't mind getting dirty and doing an honest day's work. Computer jobs may come and go, but plumbing will never go away! Go for it!

Plumbing is a good profession, good earnings potential, always in demand, but only if you serve an apprenticeship and get the correct qualifications (that includes gas fitter UK CORGI).
Downfall, you won't end each day smelling of violets.

Plumbing is a decent profession - it involves some trade schooling and journyman-ing, but once you are a professional plumber, you earn a decent wage.

All work is noble. Many plumbers make more per hour than I do, and I went to seven years of college. The important thing is to do what you want to do, are good at, and what makes you happy. Fiffty years is a long time to be unhappy! Good luck in your choice(s)!

There is a lot of need for experienced plumbers, and there always will be. Experienced plumbers are also fairly well paid ($40,000-$50,000 based on location, etc). The only catch is that it is often dirty work: clogs, leaks, and crawl spaces.
