As said earlier, your optometrist should be able to refer you to a cataract surgeon that they are comfortable working with. The optometrist will have seen other patients who have had cataract surgery performed by this doctor and will know the outcome of these surgeries. This is the best way to get a surgeon that is competent

Who diagnosed that you have cataracts? Was it an optometrist or was it an ophthalmologist? If it was an optometrist, ask the doctor whom they would recommend for surgery. If it was an ophthalmologist(MD), they would know when it's ready to come out.

Very easy surgery and the most common surgery performed.
