Early this year I dyed my hair a really pretty red color, and now that it is summer I want to go for a lighter look. I've tried to gradually tone it down to brown, but it doesn't seem to be changing the color. I can NOT get the red out for anything. Is there anything I can use to do this or am I going to have to get it proffesionally done?
Thank you

Red is a hard color to get out. You will always have a red tone no matter what color you put over it. You could go to walmart and get a bleach kit to remove the color then put a brown or what ever color you chose to do over it. I wouldnt really recommend this. Go to a Solon and have someone that knows what they r doing do it for you. It will come out looking better. Make sure you tell who ever is doing your hair what you have done to it so far. You dont want your hair damaged more then it has to be. If price is a prob, go to a beauty school. They r a bit cheaper, and have instructors that will help you and the student along the way. Good luck

Red toned stay in your hair...I have had mine red for years, and have also gone in to have it professionally done; it doesnt work either, the brassy red shows through soon after. Your best bet it to either bleach it out and dye it again whick is really hard on your hair, or to just let it grow out.

well if you are trying to tone it down with brown you have to watch out and make sure it does not have hibiscus in it cause that is a red so you are probably just putting more red in it, look for brown with out it and go from there.

You have to bleach your hair first to get rid of the reddish color and after that choose the color that you want. Otherwise, u can dye your hair with the color called 'very black'.

I would get it done by a proffessional. It may cost more but at least you know it will be done right.
