Its not bad to generalise! If you look at the average weight of the American population it is higher then anywhere else in the world!!! As such what is wrong with using that as a premise for his question? He could have phrased it better but essentially it is correct!
Its not just sugar on the fries in McDonald's either... giving steroids to cows so that they grow bigger, the population then eats the meat and so get some of the steroids themselves hence the population is bigger in general anyway.
Not just an American problem with doping food. There is a worldwide problem of effeminization at present whereby more women are on the pill which is raising oestrogen levels. This is then passed out in urine which enters the water supply. Thus affecting men as well.

Obesity is not due solely to what people eat. If fat people's bodies processed food the way skinny people's bodies do, they would have never gotten fat in the first place.
I am not talking about "metabolism". I am talking about hyperinsulinemia - the precursor condition for diabetes type 2, hypoglycemia, in many cases obesity and other "conditions".
Why do more Americans (but not all - not all of us are fat), become hyperinsulinemic? That can be genetic (as in my case) or it can be lifestyle induced. It may not be the "freedom fries" as much as it is the chocolate shake that goes with them.

Of course, the answer to all questions about body fat goes right back to the fact that people are eating too much. Why are they eating too much ?
Food is a hundred times more available than it was back in the depression days, therefore that generation was really thin and trim. Of course many of that generation has, piled on the blubber too
Another really big thing that produces fat is television. Too many are spending many many hours gaping at the box instead of milling around doing various chores that keep them moving around getting some exercise
Another thing about television is that it shows all that delicious food in the advertising, making the watchers hungry, so they run over to the fridge for yet another snack. Boy! how those snacks add up.

as far as i am concerned... we have too many luxuries that just can't be avoided. When i went to france as a student, i weighed a healthy 112 pounds for a 16 year old girl. But I was very insecure in paris as I was considered " average weight" there. everyone there was very thin. Here we do not have the excuse to run to work or bike everywhere. Here I think that it is actually very difficult to do so... depending on where you live. I live in MN and in winter it is too cold to pack up my child and bike to school and then work. Also, locations of jobs and homes and businesses are scattered. In paris, london, germany, etc. everything is close together and after taking a simple subway ride and getting off a few blocks from work where you than walk is ideal. There are of course a lot of americans who do choose an unhealthy way of living such as the way they eat and as far as I am concerned there are many people in Europe who like McDonalds just as much... they just control there exercise pattern a little better. These are just my opinions.

They eat too much and exercise too little and will not take responsibility for their actions. Its never their fault. The guy from McDonald's came out with a gun and forced them to eat the fries and then wouldn't let them walk home but insisted on driving. Obesity is the new frontier for the vultures, i.e., lawyers, and class action law suits that always blame the other guy.

Not all Americans are fat. Only stupid people believe that. You really shouldn't believe everything you see on TV. It's not healthy. How about getting out in the world and living life? Maybe you'd understand why that is a stupid statement. You also should think about changing your avatar. It really isn't appropriate with questions like this.

Just travelled around America and I couldn't buy healthy food on the go!! I had to eat MacDonalds, or share-size crisps etc! Their eating culture doesn't allow for those who want to be healthy! And yes, fries with everything.

Possibly... if you look back at the portion sizes from the 1950's, they have increased threefold since then. What was a regular meal then is now a kids meal. YIKES!!!
Plus McDonald's soaks their fries in sugar to increase the consumer's craving for them.... things that make you go HMMMMMMMM......
