He is not stupid, but, possibly the ones teaching him are. IF, he starting to talk and says "Ball" and not "All" he ready to learn at a fast rate now. He SHOULD already know; "Yes" and "No" two important words to teach babies. When he points to the Light Switch and says Ball it time to correct and say; "No, Light" simple word not; Light Switch!!!! You move into more complicated words; Compounds and Short Sentences over time and he will progress in his Vocabulary at a fast rate. Then he be forming simple sentences using Compound and Complicated Words (though he my not know a Definition, he understand the concept). Following this approach of Hanging with HIS ability to learn, not, teach when you want; he will be talking like most Third Grade Students when he is 3-4 years old. Then he is well on his way to learning.

No, he's not stupid, he's a baby. He's learning. The thing to do when he points at the lamp & says, "ball", is to say, "oh, you see the lamp? Isn't the lamp pretty? See how the lamp shines?" and that sort of thing. He'll catch on. Remember: HE IS A BABY. Be patient, for heaven's sake.

How old is your cousin? When children learn language they overgeneralize new words until they learn a new one or finally realize how a ball differs from everything else. For example, if they learn dog or cat then everything that is soft or all animals become "doggy" or "kitty."

If he's a baby, chances are he's just learning to talk and only knows one word so far, which is ball, so obviously that's the one word he is going to use to describe everything. It's quite common in toddlers just learning to speak.

No that doesn't mean he is stupid. All little children when they are learning to talk will learn a word that they like and use it for everything until they learn more words. When he does that just tell him "no that is a ______" and correct him and sooner or later you'll see that he'll start using the correct words and names for things.

When babies first learn a word they repeat it over and over and over until they learn a new one. Right now my grandson also calls everything ball. He is not stupid, he is totally normal.

How old are either of you? You sound like a teen or pre teen and he sounds like he's between 1 and 4, if this is the case it is possible that you do not recognize that he is still learning to communicate. This does not mean he is learning disabled...

no, he isnt. People need to work with him.. its your baby cousin. his parents or anyone around him isnt working with him.. i have a half/nephew (long story) and he cant barely talk and hes 4 yrs old. but he was pre-mature but if thats not the good excuse then. its because his mother never worked with him. make sure people help him, it isnt like he has the same knowledge of all of us.., he needs help from the ones he loves. and the ones who love him. Even you can help. I helped my neise.. and now she knows her A B Cs and Her numbers from 1-17, and complete sentences and shes only 3 yrs old and we give her Cartoons to watch like Deigo and Dora the exsploror ,Elmo 1-2-3s, Sponge-bob square pants.. you know educational Shows. to help them in the right direction of parents living busy lives.

No, it's just typical baby behaviour. Pretty soon his conversation skills will expand, and you'll be amazed at the things that come out of his mouth.
