I'm a UK citizen and going to central America for 5 weeks. In order to get there I will need to change flights in the states to get there. When I change flights I will need to go through immigration to continue onto Central America. After the 5 weeks there i will be coming to the states to stay for just under 90 days. Does anyone know if us immigration will take the date of when i transfered flights as the date of entry into the states or the date that I actually start my stay in the states? I hope this makes sence!! Thanks

Yes, your question makes sense. From my experience, albeit limited, your tourist visa starts from the date you actually plan to stay in the country. On your return trip the immigration official may see your first entry stamp, but they will also see the stamp for the same day in your destination country. Therein will be proof that you were just passing through. It shouldn't count on your return trip.

As a UK citizen you can come to the US anytime for a limited period of time under the visa waiver program. Therefore, this would be considered two separate trips to the US, both with a duration of less than 90 days. (You will have ample proof that you left the country for Central America.)

No, those will count as two separate entries. The US isn't as strict about length of time out as Schengen rules are. Don't worry, but don't stay over 90 days on either entry, either.

Have a good trip!

I hope they check your shoes because Robert Reid was from your country and ALL shoes of limeys should be carefully inspected as a result. Sorry, but one moron ruins it for all. You people need to CRACK DOWN on terror at home before traveling.

PILGRIMS ARE THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. DAVY CROCKET AND HIS WHOLE CREW WHERE A BUNCH OF ILLEGAL WETBACKS. ROANOKE COLONY WAS AN ILLEGAL SETTLEMENT. COLUMBUS = ILLEGAL. FOUNDING FATHERS = ILLEGALS. WESTWARD "SETTLERS" = ILLEGALS. WHY NO MASSIVE OUTCRY AGAINST THEM? BECAUSE THEIR FROM EUROPE? WHY NO "ANTI-PILGRIM" LEGISLATION? NO "RETURN THE LAND TO THE ORIGINAL OWNERS" BILL IN CONGRESS? THESE ILLEGALS AREN'T BEING CRITICIZED. IN FACT, THEY GET GLORIFIED AND DECORATED IN THE DUMMY BOOKS. WRITTEN BY THE SAME TYPE OF PEOPLE. SCHOOLS AND STREETS ARE NAMED AFTER THOSE ILLEGALS. I GUESS COMING OVER ILLEGALLY IS ONLY O.K. IF YOU DO IT WITH A BIG SPLASH LIKE A MASS HOLOCAUST OR SOMETHING.
