All children learn at different rate and if your 3 year old is not picking it up keep trying but if you push it will hurt her! I have worked with young children for more than 10 years and have seen 3 year olds reading and writing.
Try Starfall.com! It is a reading program that is growing and I love it. I have used it in my K class and younger. There are print outs that go along with the story's online.

The best thing you can do is read everyday. Don't just read the words, read pictures! Also point out the print that is our everyday world!
With writing it is a process. Random marks is the start, then lines then circles then letter like forms.
Hope this helps some!

A 3 year old's brain isn't ready to read and write. For goodness sake, let her be a child!

The best thing you can do is to sit down and read with her. Teach her that reading is enjoyable, and interesting, and that books are our friends. It's a great way to spend close time with your child.

If you force your child to try to do things that she is incapable of physically or mentally, you run the risk of frustrating her, and putting her off education forever. How would you like to have expectations set for you that you cannot attain?

Read to her. Read with her. Build a big box into a play house. Play in the dirt. Make a tent out of a sheet and a table. Splash in a pool. Go outside at night and look at the stars. That's what your daughter needs.

The business of a three year old is play. Right now just read to your daughter have lots of fun with books with repetition and rhyme and classic stories too. Try The Gruffalo, Dear Zoo, The Hungry Caterpillar, Rumble in the Jungle, Bears in Pairs etc you will have your favourites. Point out words in the environment and make signs for the house. Remember it should be fun.
As for writing, a 3 year old is much too young. She needs to develop fine motor control, supply lots of different pens, felt tips, crayons etc the chunkier are easy to hold 3 year olds like large movements so drawing or painting on wall paper roll is ideal.

It is not developmentally appropriate for a 3 year old to learn to read and write. However, exposure to literacy and writing through reading stories, exposure to environmental print, and fine motor development through painting, playdough, drawing, etc. will provide sound building blocks for a literate child when it is appropriate. Some children do pick up reading early because their parents have been so good about reading to them every day. Turn off the TV and read; that's the best thing you can do for your child.

The Teletubbies site is fantastic! My two year old grandaughter has learned so much vocabulary there. Both English and French.
Also read to her every night, use your finger and get her to say one easy word every time it appears in the book. When she recognises it easily add another word and so on. Always give positive encouragement even if she struggles or gets it wrong and don't be afraid to use silly voices, make it fun and she will learn at a rate of knots!

No website can be a substitute for living tuition. Send your daughter to school, read to her every night and ensure that instead of watching TV she enjoys reading picture books and gets as much influence as she can.

It's never too late to start.

WHY DONT YOU TRY THE PETER AND JANE BOOKS IF THEY STILL EXIST. THEY ARE FANTASTIC AND TAKE THE CHILD INTO READING SLOWLY SO THAT THE CHILD LOVES THE STORIES AND WANTS TO READ MORE AND MORE. I DONT KNOW ABOUT THE WRITING. WHY NOT JUST SIT WITH YUR CHILD AND GET A BOOK AND TEACH HER YOURSELF?
