You don't. You buy fresh instead.

Some people believe that a potato can absorb the salt. It's a wive's tale, doesn't work.

If you're speaking of canned vegetables, I always pour the water out of the can, fill, pour, fill, pour and then fill again. Rinse them thoroughly -- whether in the can like I do, or in a colander.

A lot of people freak out over using canned vegetables...because of their sodium content. However, that's what you get when you eat at a restaurant...or how many people end up adding salt to their vegetables by way of sodium-laden seasoning or table salt at the very end?

For instance, one serving of canned green beans contain 16% of the RDA of sodium. A large portion of that sodium will be removed with rinsing. Some of the sodium in the beans themselves will be cooked out in the pot, as well. So, unless you drink the green bean water...even more sodium will be drained from the beans.

Anyway, thoroughly rinsing canned vegetables will help to remove sodium. And, if cooked long enough on the stove (longer than just heating) with the right herbs and spices, you won't be able to tell the difference in canned and fresh!

Take the sodium out of canned food by rinseing the contents under cold water.

While it may be difficult to physically remove sodium by means other than chemical processes, you can greatly reduce the sodium content by lowering the concentration of sodium and adding more water to the mix.

A soup for example...add lots of water to dilute the broth when cooking.

Drain it, that will reduce the sodium somewhat. Don't forget, some foods contain sodium naturally. Soybean based products are especially bad.

Stop using canned food....it's preserved using sodium. Get the very same thing FROZEN (no expense of the can) & it's preserved by freezing, not by using sodium.
