Jonah was in the stomach of a large marine creature, often considered to be a whale, for three days before being returned to shore near his destination This is often taken as a comparison to Jesus's time in the tomb.
Lazarus was dead for four days before Jesus arrived and revived him. The 4 days is significant because the Jews thought that after 3 days it was impossible for someone to be revived. Jesus revived him, proving he had power over death.
Jesus, himself, was brutally killed for our sins. He was crucified and placed in a tomb. On the third day he rose again. This has parrallels to both stories.
Three, two and seven are numbers that just happento be special.
Three: The trinity, Spatial dimensions, days before ressurection, states of matter, etc... The number three just seems to show up alot,, almost as if the univers was built to mirror God's triune nature.
Two: The Duality of everything. It seems like many things come in pairs: Particles and anti particles, God and Devil, etc... Yet soo often these pairs are completely opposed to eachother.
Seven: The holy number, represents perfection. There are 7 fruits of the spirit, it is greater that the number of the evil one. Years between major biblical events were usually multiples of seven.

Jonah's being in the belly of the fish was a prophetic fore-gleam of what would happen to Jesus. At Matthew 12:40 Jesus says: "Â For just as Jo′nah was in the belly of the huge fish three days and three nights, so the Son of man will be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights."
Also the #3 in the Bible Denotes emphasis or intensity.
As far as Lazarus, notice what John 11:17 says regarding how long Lazarus was dead: "Consequently when Jesus arrived, he found he(Lazarus) had already been four days in the memorial tomb"
