In the South, where me family is from, it was a social gathering after church. It was a great event at the end of the week where kids could play and adults could catch up. In the summers, before A.C., no one wanted to stay in the house, so the dinners were outside and very nice.
I do a lot of business now in China and see the Chinese have dinners with friends and families almost every night.
