It depends on how close you are to your goal weight. The less you have to lose, the harder/slower it usually is.

You can drop the lbs, just know that it won't be all fat, that there will be some mucsle loss and mostly water loss. Water loss is temporary, so you will gain it back but if this is just for a special event so what?

Go to the Atkins.com website and/or buy the book and follow the first two weeks (phase 1) religiously. Even though you don't have to count calories, follow religiously this rule that so many seem to miss -
Eat until you are satisfied only.

This means not eating yourself into oblivion with limitless quantities of anything. Just eat when you are really hungry (at least 3 times a day) and just until you are satisfied.

Also don't eat after 7pm.

Make sure you drink a minimum of 2 qts of water a day (If you buy water bottles, its easy to track this); more if you exercise a lot.

Then add some exercise to your day. I would take a good long walk or run every afternoon. It helps burn off residual blood sugar in your system (my doctor recommended this).

If you hope for more permanent weight loss, start lifting weights 3 times a week (or every other day). Ask the trainer to show you a good muscle building routine (building muscle will make you leaner and trimmer very, very fast).

I'm tiny and have lost as much as 7lbs in the first week, then I slow down to between 4-8lbs a month. That's actually a great rate for permanent loss. Those bigger than me have done even better.

Good luck.

It is possible to drop 10 pounds in a couple of days, but it will not STAY off and it is a strain on the body. To lose a pound, you need to have a calorie deficit of 3500. By consuming a healthy diet and getting more exercise, you'd stimulate your metabolism to cause healthy weight loss.

Eat lightly and run. Have a physical first. If you can't run, walk very briskly for 5 or more miles each day.
Drink much water.

You can do it but it is very dangerous and can lead to lots of problems including death. Eat very little but drink lots of water and exercise a lot too.
