It's not only that, but if you were to get pregnant, how would you know who the father is? Aside from DNA tests, (which have only recently been discovered) there is no way to tell. However if a man was to get a woman pregnant, it would be obvious who the mother is.
Many cultures have introduced this due to circumstances of war and such. Women outnumber men and wars don't help the situation. Polygamy isn't simply a desire for sex, but also a means to be sure that no women are left stranded without a father and/or husband. Many cultures consider women to be the caretaker of the family while the men are the breadwinners, the protectors and providers of the family. A greater number of women than men in a monogamous society means not only are there women without husbands, but they're left out in the cold.
I personally would not be able to accept my husband taking another wife, but I don't see it as a sin if it's allowed by religion or cultural standards, so long as it is done with good intentions.

the reason most cultures or religions that allow more than one wife do so is because this is a control mechanism to get more kids born into that religion or culture. In the past the male to female ratio was much different than today since men were often dying young in wars etc, so there were quite a few more woman than men, so to keep all these women producing babies so the church would have more people to control - they started allowing more than one wife per man - also since its the more wealthy men that can afford mulitple wives this worked out pretty good for the church/culture
in reality you are correct.. what woman would want more than one husband??

To be totally fair, in cultures and societies where a man can have more than one wife, a woman should be allowed to have more than one husband - as long as all are consenting adults.
Marriage is give and take. If a husband doesn't clean up then he should be doing other things to pull his own weight - like earning a living and bringing in money.
There are many women who would like the opportunity to have sex with more than one man or at least to have the ability to have that option if they so desire it.
For most people, it is best to just have one spouse, as most people have difficulty loving ONE person genuinely and deeply, and making a long-term commitment, much less MORE THAN ONE.

Wow who are these men that want to clean the house and where can find them? I wouldn't wanna have 4 husbands or anything, but I would complain because I don't wanna share my husband with 3 other women. If I saw him with other women it would break my heart. Being with someone isn't just about having sex with them. It's also enjoying there company, caring about them, there personality, love, respect, connection, feeling close to that person, friendship etc.

Probably the first 1 husband thing was for property rights. A man didn't want to pass his stuff to a child that wasn't his. Interestingly, some of the native American tribes passed the chiefdom not to the kids of the Chief, but to the kids of his sister, because they could 100% tell that those kids were of the same bloodline as the Chief.

Exactly what I always said about the idea of having more than one wife.
A fellow would have to be crazy.
We must be twins who were seperated at birth to think this much alike.
