Would you please edit your post to indicate what age group your referring to? (Obviously the suggestions should be different for a toddler than for a teenager ;) )

Great; tweenies

I'll just add a few tips from experience. Make sure that among the main dishes you include a vegetarian selection (you'd be surprised at how many kids these days, are...and you don't want their only food option to be the veggie snack tray!!)

Any of the above mentioned foods (from other posters) will work. You can also go completely cold... (cold cuts, macaroni and potato salads and mixed green salads...and lots of snacks, oh and a fruit salad, which are easy to make ahead (and even easier to buy premade!)

Next, if you decide to go the pizza root, then it HAS to be take out pizza, from the cool local pizza place...(again include a vegetarian one). Include some summer salads with it....and lots of snacks!

If your grilling (brave soul!) then DON'T do hot dogs, (they're not cool in my neck of the woods!) Include with the meats that you choose, some grilled veggies like corn on the cob. ( I usually half them for easier management, and others that your child likes.)

For dessert...."do-it-yourself" ice cream sundaes with lots of topping choices are always a hit, or an assortment of cup cakes, brownies, and the ever popular ice cream. (Although fruit salads aren't considered a dessert item, some of the girls opted for this, so include any that you still have left, at the dessert table.)

I wish you the best, and try to have fun, too!!! :)

Try finger food... Chicken crispers with dipping suaces, chicken wings, little pizzas or pizziatas (bread pizzas)... nachos with cheese.... alsoa a good ol' BBQ with skewers, hot dogs and hamburgers.... have a pop corn and/or cotton candy machine nearby... if it is a hot day, try a snowcone machine with fruit flavored syrups. Do not forget to have something for the adults too!

A fruit salad bowl will also be good.

If it is just a general party pizza or pizza bagels work well. Chicken nuggets are another good option. French Fries you can's miss with and ice cream or cup cakes for dessert

I definitely recommend finger foods. Try veggies, party franks (the teeny weenies or tiny hot dogs), mini sandwiches, mini pizzas ( get a Ritz cracker or a tiny bagel, top it with pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, and one pepperoni), or just buy Totino's pizza rolls or bagel bites, and chips and dip are always a hit at any party. I hope my ideas have helped you.
