brewers yeast and garlic supplement. Also try insect repellent. Putting up fly traps is another way to reduce the number of flys

First of all why would you want a dog that lives outside. It just means you really just want to HAVE a dog, but not HAVE a dog. Would you let your child live outside? If flies kept biting your child what would you do? Yes, Take him to the Dr. to see why and what as well as never leave him outside unattended again. Dogs are loving companions who want to be with theie families, not all alone. Bring the dog to a vet - have it checked and get a clean bill of health and then make a decision, keep it living inside, obviously it can go outside to run and play, but it should live and sleep in the house - or bring it to a rescue and explain that you have no idea of how to love your dog and want to sign it over so it can get a family who has time to love the one who knows nothing better than to love you back.
BTW: Shaving your dog, other than possibly making it cute is not good for the dog. Dogs have hair and fur, designed to keep them cool in the heat and warm in the cold, removing the layer means the dog can be too hot or too cold...

I never did understand why people want a dog, and then let it live outside. Why not try bringing it in, where no flies can get at it? If you don't want the dog inside, let me suggest giving it to a family that will truly take care of it...and keep it inside! Dogs are not meant to be kept outside constantly. They are are companions and want to be with us. Please....for the dogs sake, take it in..or give it to a loving family. Just imagine if you had flies biting you all the time, and you had nowhere to escape!! It's not fair what you're doing now!

Mix Basil and water (2 TB spns to a quart of water) mix well and allow to settle. The dip a wash rag or some sort of cloth and wipe your dog down with it. Or you can simply add 2-3 times that amount of Basil to your dog bath container. This also works for fleas and in most cases ticks. Bath him / her once if not twice a week for two weeks then once a week for maintenance level. God Luck; Russ

Are you using Frontline and Heartgard? If not, you'd better start. You have to be careful as to what you put on the dog to repel insects. Some people use K9 Advantix instead of Frontline. Also, Avon's Skin So Soft might work and I don't think it will hurt the dog if it licks it off. Check with your Vet.

Use fly repellant. Check your dog for breaks in the skin. If she has some, clean & cover with ointment. Remove all poops, old food, nasty bedding, scrub dog house with bleach cleaner & water. Keep dog and area clean. Don't locate human trash near dog areas.

Many flies are attracted to necritous tissue. Does your dog have a rash? If not then a repellent is necessary. Also make sure that you pick up the "biscuts" every day.

Go to your local co-op or pet store and buy a product called 'flys-off'. I use it on my outside dogs. You have to apply it every day. It comes in pink or blue so you can tell when it wears off. Just keep it out of the eyes and mouth area. works great. Just use cotton balls to apply and spread around the ears, neck and back.
Best of luck.

Unfortunately this is a problem for outside dogs. Not sure it's treatable. Ask the vet if there are any sprays that would work.
