If, the man with seven wives was coming from St. Ives, (which we can't be sure of),

For a total of 2801 that were met coming from St. Ives.

.......You are going there and met the man, you never said where he was going. Just because he has seven wives with seven sacks etc.... doesnt mean they are with him. so the answer must be 1 going to St Ives and 1 coming from (assuming the man was leaving)

Well, u were gonig to St. Ives so thats one for the first question. The second question's answer is one as well- the man. u did say that u met a man WITH seven wives etc, u didn't say that they were with him.

that's tricky, you are GOING to st. ives and the man u met on the way, he could either be going or coming back, we dont know.
so i dont think anyone is coming from st. ives.
and cant even say how many are going, for same reason, we dont know if the man and his wives are going to or coming from, we just know they are on the way.
either this or im way off !!
