I'm sure it does work, but loss that quick is water, glycogen and muscle fibre. Fat goes last. Plus your body goes into survival mode and if you do that sort of thing for too long/too often, your metabolism resets itself so you can cope on less calories, so you will ALWAYS struggle to keep weight off.
This is a lecture i know and i'm sorry. If you need a celebrity role model, look at someone like Nell McAndrew who is a super fit athlete and an example of someone who has a healthy lifestyle and looks fantastic on it - slim and strong without lipo-scarred scrawny legs...
